Write to them (not email) saying that you request a full refund as you have not been supplied with the service that you purchased, and that if you are not fully refunded by X date (I'd give them 10 working days) then you will be seeking legal advice on this matter.
Keep a copy of the letter for your records, and send the letter by special delievery.
If the refund isn't given in the time specified, contact your local CAB branch, who will advise you on the best course of action. However, I have never not had a refund when I've done this.

Don't talk nicely to them, be very direct and tell them you are not happy. Insist they give you a refund for the error or a reprint of your advert.

Have you tried contacting them telling them about their mistake? They may give you a weeks free advertisement or something. If no success, then contact the Press Complaints Commission.
This is there website, http://www.pcc.org.uk/

<-------- I am the type of person who complains. They did not follow your instructions and you were charged for something you didn't get. As a goodwill gesture they should run you a free ad. What you got to lose by complaining? Go for it!

complain and put your foot down. but remember there is a thin line between rudeness and honesty, standing up for yourself. Get to the point, what you ordered, what they gave you, what they need to do.
