To believe in hell you must also buy into the life after death concept that is so attractive to others that religion is modeled around ones preferences .Some people must attend church every week if able to and spread the God message to others .While others must go to church when time permits .Some allow divorce and remarriage while others do not .Almost all make an exception to killing when it comes to war or defending ones family .
How can a set of believes continue to change and still have any meaning at all . religion is designed to attract and keep those who are willing to donate money to the church and at the same time maintain some kind of order among the faithful. Those religions that preach a violent message are shut down and destroyed . Look at David Koresh of the branch dividians and his faithful followers .In a thousand years or so if marketed and supported by a government it will gain popularity and him and his followers will become martyrs killed to stop the true message of God and his prophets .
How can so many people buy into such a fairy tale .
Any God would not find the need to torture souls for eternity . Knowledge is the key to understanding compassion and love of mankind . That we have so many stupid people is the problem .
I say stupid people need to be re-educated at camps until they can accept their own death and no such thing as the God created by man to suite his needs .
A holy war is God suspending his own commandments and allowing an army to go fourth unto the lands of others killing raping pillaging and returning with gold silver and slaves for the king .
Sounds like it is Good to be the king .
The government now employs 40 million people and has all the support it needs to force its morality on the people . True freedom ended the year after the constitution was written and it had been signed by all the proper powers at the time .
It was a good sales pitch and after all we are all sold on something in life or we are just nobodies scrounging out a living and making others rich .

Yes I believe in hell, but hopefully I'll never get to see it!
I had a couple of nightmares about it throughout my life. No doubt from images picked up in movies...one is of a bottomless pit, you keep falling & falling & all these hands grasping at you as you descend. Another was just a vision of bodies falling from the distance, charred bodies falling like leaves.
Rent the movie "What Dreams May Come" it's an excellent interpretation of Heaven & Hell. (It presents the idea that the afterlife is individual, that you create your own Heaven & Hell. In this sense, the afterlife is like a dream either the best dream you've ever had or the worst nightmare.) I don't think that Hell is all fire & brimstone as the Bible may suggest. I think this is just meant to symbolize great suffering. Hell is just the absence of God, being isolated, alienated from happiness, goodness and light forever. I picture it being cold and dark. Maybe it's just blackness. A limitless void. Being banished to a dark hole for all eternity. Emptiness, desolation forever. A nightmare you can't awaken from.
Who knows what it will be like? But I wouldn't want to take any chances. So try to live a good life! Hey, it can't hurt! I also believe in Heaven & I picture it being really nice. It's all about real estate! If you have to live forever, it might as well be in a great setting! Location location location! Ha ha

There is no such place or thing as hell. You might have read it in some bibles that were poorly translated-the word is Sheol, the common grave of mankind. It is mentioned ten times in the scriptures; Sheol-or hades are associated with death and the dead, not with life and the living-Re 20:13. In themselves the words Sheol, or Hades contain no thought or hint of pleasure or pain......KECK

I had always thought of Hell as a metaphor for a mental state people enter into in life, but a couple dreams I've had recently were powerful enough for me to incline a review of this stance.

We as Jews believe in hell, but not the kind that most people believe in. First of all, you can only be in our hell for a miximum of 11 months. Next, it is to purify our souls, not to punish us.
