If you stay in bed for 30 minutes that should be enough time to get the sperm where they need to go. And the rest of these people saying that urinating has no effect at all are wrong. If you get up right away there's a thing called gravity that is going to cause the semen to leak out. But staying in bed for 20-30 minutes, possibly with a pillow under your butt, gives you the best chances.

1) Most of the sperm that is going to cross the cervix does so before the man even removes his penis. This is why douching, jumping up and down, etc. Do not work as forms of birth control
2) Go click this link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Female_reproductive_system
*The Urethra is where your pee comes out of.
*The man leaves his sperm deep in the vagina, where it crosses the cervix, enters the uterus, swims up the fallopian tubs and looks for an egg that has been released from the ovaries.
As you will notice these two systems are not related, and in fact, are not terribly close to each other.
3) 1 year is still considered normal. About now they will start running some tests. They will check your huband's sperm count. This is the easiest test. All he has to do is leave a deposit in a cup and some poor person in the lab has to count the swimmers. You will also probably be told to use ovulation predictor tests to see if you are ovulating, these are available at the drugstore without a prescription. They may also run a test where they put a catheter through your cervix into your uterus and fill it with a dye and use ultrasound/x-ray etc to make sure your tubes are not blocked.
3) Many women have sucess with http://ovusoft.com/
4) When you go to a fertility specialist find one that will treat you for macrophages. This is a relatively new discovery and it worked for my friends after 7 years of trying and expensive treatments.
Good Luck!

This is my standard answer......... go get a book called Taking Charge of your fertility by Toni Weschler
This book will help you with all of your menstrual and conception questions. It’s for all women - not just women trying to conceive. It covers everything from temperature to mucus checking, etc.. It will help you understand your body and all the myths about it. It will help you time when you are ovulating and the best times to conceive – or not! It tells you how to figure out your cycle and what to expect. My husband and I tried for a year to conceive and nothing happened. The first month I used the book we conceived right away. Now I am due Feb 2. It's about knowing your body and knowing when you are fertile or not. You can pick and choose what you do with your info. Good luck and don't listen the all the myths!

Sometimes nature needs a little help. My OB suggested having sex in the missionary position to prevent any sperm from leaking out. Then, immediately following sex, raise your pelvis and put a pillow under your butt to keep your pelvis elevated. You can also bring your knees to your chest and wrap your arms around them. Either way, try staying in this position for at least 20-30 minutes after sex to let gravity help a bit. The longer you can keep most of the sperm in, the better. Try urinating before sex, so you can lay in bed as long as possible after wards.

who the hell cares when in pee and no it does not matter when, where did you hear that one. You can only get pregnant when you pass the egg from your ovary into the fallopian tube down to the uterus, the sperm finds the egg and bam a baby is conceived. most women ovulate from The 9th day of cycle to the 13th, i knew for instance that if i had unprotected sex the 10th day of my cycle i would be pregnant and i always was. You do know that the first day of you period is the first day of your cycle right??? so have sex each and every day of those days and if nothing happens after you next to cycle then it is time to find out if your husbands sperm count is low or are they weak and can not make the journey or if it is you somewhere along the line. Oh and you can pee when ever you want to.

My dear urinating has nothing to do with it , when it is time you will get pregnant, I tried for a year or more also with my husband nothing happened as soon as I gave up BAMM! There I was pregnant, I was 30 yrs old then and guess what after I had that baby God blessed me with 2 more. Try to relax have sex for pleasure, don't make it a task saying I'm trying to get pregnant your brain picks up on this stress and your body chemistry changes. Let it be natural ,relax, and enjoy your love making and when you least expect it God will fill your belly with much joy!

Keep your hips elevated (i use 2-3 pillows or balance myself upside-down on the edge of the bed) for 15-20 mins. After that, there should be enough sperm in the cervix. Most likely, the excess will run out but that doesn't mean it's not working.

No...urinating before sex has nothing to do with the sperm count. You need to go see your obgyn and they can help you with your dilemma! Plus, 30 min is more than enough for those little guys (sperm) to do what they need to do! Good luck to you and your husband!!!

No. The sperm get to where they need to go pretty quickly after intercourse. Plus, when you urinate, it comes out a different opening, which does not interfere with your cervix (which is where the sperm are).
