This is the predicament I am in right now. Last week I sent a check to my university's bursar's office to pay my tuition. However, the check has been returned, for there was less money in my checking account than I needed. At the time I sent the check, I thought money was to be transferred from my savings account to the university's account. As an immigrant, I did not know what I was supposed to know. Anyway, I can't ask the bursar's office to redeposit the check right now because the office will be closed till Jan 2nd. I am out of country, so I can't send another check. The deadline is the 1st of January. I called the bank, and they said they cannot help me out until the 2nd of January. I wonder if there is a way I can appeal to the university for grace. If there is one, please let me know. Thank you.

In addition to possibly having it charged to your credit or debit card via the university's website, you can also ask your bank to mail an official bank check to the university for you. They will usually (for a fee) expedite the mailing at your request via fed ex or UPS or whichever carrier they use.

Also, this way the funds are guaranteed on an official check
