You really shouldn't have married your brother in the first place.

If your brother doesn't make a lot of money, have him contact your local Legal Services Agency. They provide legal assistance for low income/indigent people. If they are not able to help him, they will refer him to some place than will be able to help him get a divorce for a reduced cost. Some lawyers do pro bono work (work for free) and others take cases on a reduced fee if the person cannot afford to pay very much money.

I would check with your local divorce court system first off. They will give you your options. I know in most cases, however, even non-contested divorces (where people aren't fighting over assets and things acquired during the marriage) cost at least the court cost.... which (in Kansas) is $700-$800.

Stay legally separated and pay for the divorce whenever they can finally afford it. If the divorce is mutual, both parties should ante in for it.... meaning the go halfisies (each person pays $350-$400 for the divorce). My ex-boyfriend was married when we dated. Four years later, he still is (and has had several other girlfriends, too!). He and his "wife" live in different states (him in Kansas, her in Pennsylvania), do not considered to be married to one another, and have no qualms about it. They both have their own lives but are both too lazy to file for divorce (and too poor, at that). When either of them are ready to remarry, that's when one will file for the divorce.

Good luck. I hope this helps.

If his wife wants a divorce too and there is no property to speak of and no children and they are in complete agreement on how to split their stuff and bills etc. they can maybe go to a paralegal and get the paperwork filled out an submitted. There will probably be some minimal charges but nothing like if they both hired lawyers..

If there are children and property and questions about who gets custody of who, who gets to live in the house or do they sell the house or she wants to fight him on everything it will cost him a bundle because then he will have to hire a lawyer to represent his interests.

Of course if he still doesn't want to hire a lawyer he can roll over and let her have everything while he pays for it all, it will still cost him a bundle.

The old saying comes to mind. Nothing comes without a price.

Legal assistance is offered "free" or at little or not charge to low income individuals. I do not know the details, but if you contact your local City Hall or County, possibly they have list of such available services; such as, services for abused women. I do know that if he goes to a legal clinic, and if there is not contesting from the wife, the divorce will probably cost under $1000; but only is there isn't any property settlements or children involved.

You can get a book from the book store that has all the forms in it to get a simple divorce as long as there is no property & kids. You still have to pay to have it filed and court cost. My cousin got one this way a few yrs ago.

go to the local library or search the Internet for do it yourself divorces. If both parties are agreeable you can save thousands. Be careful, if you have questions it wouldn't hurt to ask an attorney as some of them will provide free advice if they understand the situation.

For free no, but if he has no children, depending on the state, you can download the papers and file them yourself. My divorce cost less than $100 in GA. You have to pay the filing fees and notary costs.

This is a very expensive legal issue, most lawyers on the US will cost a fortune, many people divorce on other countries. you have to ask a contact in other country to help you. The Dominican Republic is a preffered place to do that, you can contact me by here if you are interested.

Undisputed divorces that don't require you to employ lawyers/solicitors are virtually free, but you will have to pay a nominal fee for the county courts' documentation.

Try going to a public aide office, they can give him referrals to lawyers that do this for low cost.
You can write up your own divorce IF it's mutual and everythings agreed on. Look on the web for how to write it up, then take it to court house.
