It could be angina which is not exercise induced. There are different types of angina. I think he should use his nitrate spray before he goes running and also when he feels chest tightness.
Statins are excellent in reducing cholesterol, i think he should start on simvastatin every day on a long term basis. Consult your GP, or you can buy low dose simvastatin from the Pharmacy. Consult your local pharmacist

Just make sure his cardiologist understands everything you've said here. The fact that nitrates makes it stop indicates it could be cardiac pain. However cardiac pain usually worsens with exercise and may be releived with rest.. He had some risk factors (diabetes and high cholesterol). If his cardiologist understands all this and says he's fine, then he probably is. If you still feel uncomfortable about his decision, get a second opinion. Something you didn't tell us was his age. If he's 20 years old that's one thing. If he's 60 that's something else.

i have that same problem. i hurt a lot when i eat or drink something and then do physical activities.
i went to the cardiologist too and they didn't find a thing. after 6000 worth of tests, i found out on my own that it was a chest hernia. the doctor said that i don't need to do anything about it unless it breaks through my chest, or it bothers me so bad in pain that the only way to get any comfort would be to fix it.
how i found out about the hernia is i took my shirt off, laid down on a hard surface, sucked my chest in, and pushed. i had a big bulge protruding from my chest that was later diagnosed as a hernia. i would have your husband try this and see if he has the same problem i have?

I once had to have a EKG because of similar pains. Nothing turne up on the EKG of course. It turned out I had just needed a chiropractic adjustment. I had pinched a nerve that ran near my heart!

The thing that makes me think it is cardiac related is that nitrates make it stop.....I suggest a second opinion on the cardiac work up. Other than that I might think it could be Costochondritis.

It sounds like he has a pulled muscle in his chest. Tell him to take it easy on heavy lifting for a while.
