I'm 4 months pregnant with my first baby and I've only had experience from babysitting (as young as 8 weeks) and I've been around plenty of newborns, but it's very hard to imagine myself caring for my brand new baby. I KNOW I will and WANT to, but is it hard?

It very hard, very tiresome, very scary until you get the hang of it. I have a 6 year old, and a 4 month old baby. It was like I was starting all over again. I forgot alot of stuff and I was nervous about doing everything. All I can say is make sure you have supportive people around you that can give you a hand or break whenever you need it. Because after labor you will go through all kinds of moods, from happy to sad, to fustrated which is all very normal. Just get rested and make sure you have happy supportive people to help you. And dont listen to everyones advice, some poeple are dead wrong, and some things work differently for others. Good Luck...

Look if you will think this way, you will find it very hard because there is lack of sleep, baby wetting issues for about a year or till the baby is potty trained, constant vigilance to care for the baby and so on, but trust me the love of a mother, the baby's sweet face and a single smile is such a reward in itself that a mother misses this phase, even when the children are married and have their own children. It's hard but not so hard and you will want to do it on your own. Once your heart is into something, the body and your mind does not get so tired. Be happy! I am sure you will enjopy your baby.

Oh yes its very hard. I'm 25 and just had my first. I never thought it would be like this. Everyone says "oh alls they do is eat and sleep, baby's are easy" BULL CRAP! My baby does eat and does sleep yes, but when hes awake hes a lot of work. You have to stop whatever it is your doing to tend to that baby! You have to figure out why the baby is crying. You need to sit with that baby till its sleeping. Making bottles or breastfeeding whatever you choose they are both hard work. Even though its hard work you will get threw it. There will be times when you will want to give up and there will be times that you will look at that baby and think how you ever could have thought about giving up! Its an emotional rollercoster but you will get threw it.

Every mom worries about that, so no, your question is not dumb. The best piece of advice that my midwife gave me repeatedly was 'moms and babies have a natural way of making things work'. When I was stressed I reminded myself of that and it took the edge off.
Ive had two kids and hope to be pregnant by the end of 2007. It was an amazing experience for me both times. I was relaxed and comfortable with them and they responded with being happy easy babies. Kids feed off of your energy and if you are stressed, worried or thinking you are doing the wrong thing your baby will sense that.
Because you Want to have this experience odds are you will fully enjoy it! And so will your baby.

Honestly I didn't feel that it was hard. I was 19yrs old and a single mom. Yes, my mom was there for me but it was mostly me doing all of the work because my mom had to work. It was pretty easy to me, but at the same time every baby is different. My child was a quiet baby. She didn't cry alot and if she did her cry was real low. But then other people have babies that cry alot and cry really loud. I feel it all depends on how you take it. I think you will do a really good job. Don't stress it. Congratulations on the new baby.

I don't think my children were hard to care for as newborns at all. They just eat, sleep and poo. Make sure you sleep when the baby sleeps for the first few weeks until you regain all your normal stamina - remember, growing and birthing a baby is hard on your body. The nice thing about children is as they grow, and it becomes harder to care for them, you grow also and learn new techniques. Every stage of a child's life is different and presents new challenges. The first stage is the biggest adjustment for parents, but once you realize that this precious child is totally dependent on your for their very existence, you understand the responsibility you have taken on and will rise to the occasion.

Newborns are overwhelming at first, but after the first week you'll already feel like a pro. Things will start to come naturally for you. Good luck and enjoy your new baby!!

No that is not a dumb question. Its not hard to care for a new born. It kind of just come natural. I think the biggest thing for me was the getting up in the middle of the nite. I definitly watched them sleep alot. But for the most part everything falls into place.
Good Luck.

I felt the same way with my first pregnancy. To answer your question, no it's not hard and not a dumb question. Everything will come to you naturally. There is nothing closer to Heaven than holding your newborn child for the first time and observing this miracle that you made. You'll know what to do....trust me!
Good luck!
