I heard that when you apply for jobs that are not degree specific (ie. Doctors, Lawyers, Social Work, etc.) that it doesn't matter what your degree was in just as long as it was a bachelors or master. Is this true? I would really like to major in Anthropology or another "non-career" field but do not want to end up working fast food or retail again. No offense to those in the field, I have spent 15 years there and want a change. Can I major in a "non-career" field and still get a good job?

I am an art major... and let me tell you some of the companies who are hiring don't even care if you have a degree as long as you can show an ability to exceed in the field. Some of my friends were continuously being fired to be replaced by hot shot G-designers who were basically self-taught and have experience in programs that most school don't offer with the major but as separate majors. Of course outside of art a degree is preferred but just like it doesn't matter what school you get a degree from in some cases, It doesn't matter what you have a degree in for the most part. My significant other is a government major working in Film and Television. My best friend has a degree in music but she work's a Social worker. and lol I think a degree will qualify you for getting a better job than McDonald's so don't worry about that.

yes! especially if you wanted to go to graduate or professional school (doctors, lawyers, etc.). They just wanted educated people more than they want someone with a specialized degree.

If you just want to get a job after your first degree, then as long as the job you are applying for doesn't require specialized knowledge (accounting, nutrition, etc) then usually any degree will do.

I have my degree in Sociology and Criminal Justice, with a minor in Biology, and my Forensic Science Certificate. I work in Human Resources and Staffing. It happens all the time

Yes, the degree doesn't really matter, but you have to hone other skills that are in demand. I have an art degree but have learned marketing along the way and I get good jobs related to marketing, not my art degree. Try for internships while you are still in school, that will help also.

The career you end up in doesn't necessarily has to match the degree you received. I have an engineering degree, but ended up in public accounting, and many people in my start group did not have accounting degrees.

What is important is whether you can pass and get certification (licensing) in whatever field you do end up in.

its very very puzzling to make a good earnings on an identical time as doing information get admission to from domicile, and you're unlikely to get the names of authentic employers in a public place like this. i could recommend doing a seek of the previous 'maximum suitable solutions' on yahoo, I have been given some good counsel that way.
