Although there are 13 answers already : ] I figured I would add my opinon and that is the same as most people on here...
A book will never be obselete.
They can't... too many people love the validity of a hard copy and book stores are as busy as ever with new books every day.
They are romanticized and stereotyped as a comforting activity and adds a level of scholar to a persons character when a number of books is in their memory bank : ]
They are gonna stick around abit longer, especially if the book worms of this world have any say about it

Definately not! I can't imagine a world without books. I think books are one of the corner stones of the educational world, as well as entertainment. I think the reason some movies are so successfull is because people have read the books. Plus, for me anyway, books are a release from reality. I love to curl up and get lost in a far away land, fighting in battles with dragons, and wizards. It's great and keeps my mind off of the real stuff I am supposed to "deal" with.

Hi Maxwell...good question. I often wonder the same myself. I think, eventually, books will no longer be available on a mass market. Like it was in the past, books, printed books, will become either collectors item or available only to the wealthy. People are becoming used to having everything at their fingertips, and with more and more "books" available on the internet, and with our worlds disappearing resources, printed books will become, not obsolete, but too expensive to mass reproduce. I don't think it will be anytime soon, but, it will happen.

I believe it is on it's way, we are so use to having it at our finger tips, on a commputer, so I think in some time books will become obselete, and the world will be come dumb, but I just love the smell of a book, the pages where the pin has bleed black ink on it in the form of words. It is one of the grestest things ever. I believe reading will save our life. {though I maybe wrong}

I doubt it...although e-books have been on the scene for a while, there is no evidence that they will come to replace the standard book form. after all, curling up in front of a fire to read off your laptop isn't quite the same as having a good book

as long as there are people to read books, then there will be books. just look at the posts so far. most everyone says that they like to read or they think books are practical. That is the biggest testement to the survival of books of all, the fact that there are people that still want them. even if people stop writing books, people will still read them. i bet you have atleast 10 books in your house right now. they'll still be there even if every other copy suddenly goes out of print.

I don't think books will ever go away. What will you do when the power goes out? Books will never "crash". Books can be accessed at any time wherever you are. Books just rule, quit being such a anti-book freak.

Have you tried to read a book online? Too bright, too bulky, tied to a computer.
Have you tried to listen to a book on CD? Too slow
Books can be read faster. I read 3000 wpm
Books are easily transportable.
Books do not need to be plugged in.
Books do not hurt your eyes.
I think they will stay around a long time yet.

I hope not. A good book, cracking open a fresh new book is a simple pleasure in life.
