Being as healthy in your diet as you are, I wouldn't worry so & I am sure your doctor would feel the same. It is all natural and normal. My pregnancy experience sounds a close match to yours. I am slim built and gained no weight at all early on due to such intense nausea with many foods but in the last trimester I suddenly went from not looking pregnant at month 7 to being a woman with noticeable bump at month 9. I believe the baby doubles in weight in the last stages of the final trimester + this is why your weight gain is so much. Remember weight isn't all your personal weight in terms of fat/flesh, but a growing baby + a lot of fluid too. Your body's fluid increases by approx 40% with pregancy. Gaining 2.5/3 stones of weight is very average and you're certainly well within that range. I'd suggest not to continue weighing yourself but concentrate on being active (balanced with relaxation too) and calm & happy in your pregnancy. Good luck!

I am 17 weeks and 5 days. I started out at 160 pounds and now weigh 173. I am concerened about the rapid weight gain because at first I gained 3.5 pounds, then in 1 month I gained 10! But all my weight is in my breasts and stomach, and my doctor has not said anything about it. I try to eat healthy, although sometimes when I don't feel well I eat whatever is handy. I think we are both fine, and just make sure you are not eating fast food and 10 brownies everyday. Its hard to accept the weight gain, its so against the norms of society, but for once, lets not worry and eat when we are hungary and know its for the better of our child!

as long as your dr is aware and didnt seem to think anything serious is wrong then maybe you are just making up for the beginning and are stqarting to blow up. I read that if you notice extreme weight gain that it could be a sign of pre-eclamsia but im sure your dr would have mentioned that to you if he thought that was they case. My dr always tells me to watch my fluid intake and to only drionk when thirsty because drinking too much can trap all the water weight and make you blow up. So i guess just keep an eye on it. Good luck!

The reason is that you are close to having your baby. The same thing happened to me. Don't worry, though! Just listen to your doctor. By the way, you are eating healthy meals, but you really need to slow it down a bit. Don't be too active because it can throw you into early labor, which is not what you want. But good luck and God Bless!

I had the same problem and still do except I have been tested for it and came out negative (thank god). Pre-clamsia or toxemia (same thing, just different name) A sign of a lot of swelling and gain weight is a sign. Also, another sign is if you have high blood pressure, headaches, dizzy. You might want to ask your doctor to have your urine tested for the protien, that is the best way to detect if you have pre-clamsia.

If your blood sugar is okay (no GD), then I'd say it was just your body's metabolism changing. Pregnant women have very little say in how much weight we gain during our pregnancy. Talk to your doctor about your diet and exercise, maybe he can suggest some changes to help you out.

That happened to me as well, but for me, it turned into a life and death situation, for the baby. He had a blocked intestine called "duodenal atresia" something along the lines of that.(never could pronounce it!) The baby-my son, had to be delivered premature so they could fix his intestine. If you're worried, seriosly talk to your doctor and mention if it's possible to get another ultra -sound done, if there is a problem they will be able to see it. Just mention what I told you to your doctor. Hopefully everything is fine. GOOD LUCK!

you could be gaining water weight...are you swelling? I always gained very slow 10-12 lbs until about 35 weeks I would gain very fast after that it was always due to water (swelling)

The body is an amazing thing. It is going to do what it needs to do to keep both you and your baby healthy. Congratulations
