You tell him straight out. There's nothing wrong with "putting down the laptop and donning the apron". Taking care of your home and family should be an honorable job. Be proud of it.

First of all...You shouldn't let ANYONE make you feel
silly or any other negative emotion, because of decisions
you make,jobs or anything else.
All you need to do is work a notice that you're leaving your
job,(in case you might want to come back to the job, sometime).
As for as an explanation to your boss, just tell him you've
decided to take a break from working, and let it go at that.

P.S. There's nothing silly about being a housewife/homemaker.
You'll still be working! :) The best thing is...You can take a
break..anytime you want! :) Good Luck!

Tell your boss,
That you have a higher demanding position that is highly important to the best interest of members of your immediated family. And it is the request of your husband that you need to step down from this position, of your own submission to your husband that you need to take place of being housewife/homemaker/mother of your family, 24/7.
Thank your boss for the opportunity to have the training, skills, and workforce environment to nurture your abilities.
And tell them, if in the near future, that I need to go back to the workplace, that you will carry the contiuntuity skills to the workplace.
Best of Luck.

boss(or whatever you call him), In the past few days and weeks i have felt that all the work i do at office and at home are catching up with me. This kind of lifestyle-I find it too hectic. I want to give more attention to my family and want to spend some quality time with them. So, boss, you might have guessed by now, I'll have to quit work. This decision is mine and mine alone. No one has in any way influenced this. I have thought about it very carefully and have come to the conclusion that this needs to be done. I hope you understand. .....

Explain to him/her that you are resigning and you have enjoyed the job and thank him for the opportunities, and you are going to try a new opportunity/challenge. You really don't have to explain to your boss what you are going to do when you leave. but if you want to, just say you really have always wanted the opportunity to be a homemaker and you are going to give it a shot since you have the chance. it's not silly.

I'd say that you decided to change careers from whatever you're doing now to one that is even more challenging - raising your children. You feel that your children need you now more than ever and that this will be the best use of your skills and energy at this point in your life. I'd also say that you are grateful for the opportunities that your current employer has offered you and that you hope to be able to return to the company someday when you're ready. I hope this helps & admire your move! Good luck!

You say exactly what you feel. You obviously are prioritizing your home life, family is very important, and the most important and one of the hardest jobs in the world is to be a full time mom. You just tell your boss that that is your main priority now, family, and thank him for the opportunities he/she has given you.

Just tell him/her it doesn't matter if they think it sounds silly. Its your life not theirs. When I quit I just walked in and told my boss I was leaving. He had 6 weeks to find me someone to train to replace me.He didn't like the idea. But he got over it.You shouldn't feel silly. What job on this earth is more important than being their to take care of your family.

You don't need to give any explanation why you're quitting. But if you have a good relationship with your boss, then you can just say that you've decided to pursue other fields/options.
