Check with a glass shop. Some cracks can be repaired. They have to be smaller cracks and can not be in your line of vision. If it is a larger crack, get it replaced.

Cold weather (or hot) will likely cause the crack to grow in length. You shouldn't get more than one crack though. You might not be able to afford a whole new windshield on your own, but many insurance companies will replace the glass for free or with only the deductible if the windshield cracks. Cracks are called runners, and you can get them "fixed" so they stop growing across your windshield for about $50, but it may be better just to pay your deductible and get a whole new piece of glass. If I were you, I'd call your insurance company and see if they will cover a replacement wholly or minus the deductible. Some states require it to be free, so you may luck out. Either way, you're paying less than you would for a whole new piece of glass. Covering the windshield won't prevent the crack from growing since its ambient temperature that's cracking it, not anything resting on the glass.

Since the windshield of a car is part of the safety items in a car and is made to keep stuff from coming in or going out,ie. an accident. You really should replace it. Some of the windshield repair shops can repair the glass/crack to keep it from extending, but they cannot fix it to keep you from going through it in an auto accident. Hope you get it replaced, for your own safety.

I had a small crack on a windshield that you could barely see once and then when the temperature got to -3 degrees one night the windshield cracked all the way across and I had to get a new one.

Get the whole windshield replaced. Once a windshield is cracked that far there is normally no fixing it.

I would spend the extra money to get a new windsheild put in. OR you could check at area salvage yards to see if you can find a good used one. But repairing the crack may not work, and since the crack is on eht driver's side, you don't want to take any chances of it breaking while you are travelling at road speed.

you can ask about a repair if the crack is too long they prob. wont touch it most guarantee their work and they know what cant be fixed in that case a replacement is your only option.

Get it repaired if its not that bad, if its multiple cracks in your main field of vision then definitely get it replaced.

It'll just keep cracking. The permanent fix is to get a new one.
