Safer than when and what is being covered in that statement? Am I personally safer where I live? For the last eighteen years I have never felt safer. Is my country? I feel not.

I think that statement is made by people who are trying to convince themselves it's true. I doubt cities are any safer from the myriad troubles affllicting them, and most people live in cities. The rest of us pay more for everything including taxes and are experiencing stagnant or declining income.

Not to mention the worldwide network of terrorists just waiting to pull the next nasty on us.

And if they don't get us, the air quality or the longterm effects of global warming will. Watch out.

It is meant to be a smoke screen. So the public will not know the real truth. I have children. I do not want them to be drafted to fight a war that is only the president's war. If it is for self-defending our country because we are under attack. That is a different matter. I would want them to serve. I did. More Americans die each day here in America, than all of the rest of the world. Why are we not concerned about making our country safer? Not the world, just our country. Now America is hated by many more people in the world. Only because of our Horrible foreign policy, which has turned into an unnecessary war, and our domestic policy which is almost non-existent under the current Leadership. America is not safer! We should take care of our borders and citizens in this country first. Then if there is any left over, we could help other countries.
I ask everyone: How can you help your neighbor, when you cannot even help yourself?

America is safer than other countries but to truly feel safe, it's better to live in a country where no one hates the country and where you're not living next to wild animals who may eat you and where you won't starve and where you won't get burglarized etc.

Being scared is a human condition that we all struggle with.

I feel grateful that I live in the United States. I have many rights and laws to ensure my safety. I am white, middle-class, and I thank God for plunking me down here.

Many members of older generations, and I remember from my childhood, that we had a greater sense of personal safety in the places we lived and traveled.

Is instant coverage by TV the culprit? Have people always been prey to sudden attack but we didn't hear of it? Yes. Population keeps growing, is more mobile, so more chances for danger. Gut feeling: Danger has always been present, and it has increased exponentially - it's more frequent. Being more public, we think of it more; and worry more about how to stay safe.

After 911, the people felt like we were a bigger target and wanted to know why and what was being done. Whether you liked it or not, Homeland Security was born and some of the freedoms we had, were slightly restricted, such as when you go fly somewhere.

Many of the intelligence agencies began to compare notes and try to fill the gaps that were there for 40-50 years, so that another 911 couldn't happen again.

Every terrorist out there that hates us is planning, looking for a hole to make another statement in blood, but I for one, think that with the vigilance we have, some have been unable to do this.

If we pull back from Iraq without finishing what was started, the people in our biggest cities will feel the wrath of terrorism in short order. I don't worry about it cause I live well outside of these target cities. LA, NY, Boston, Dallas, Houston, San Fran and Miami and Washington DC (no loss there) would all have a big bulls eye on them. Hey, I am waiting for someone to slip a dirty bomb in and blow it up. then the same Liberals who are screaming that Bush is taking away our freedoms, will be the same ones wanting to hang him for not protecting them.

Go figure, a double standard!!

have we been attacked since 9/11? No.

Agree or not on the war, it has at least kept the focus of the Islamic extremist concentrated on hitting our troops over there in their "Holy Land" not something they can tolerate.
A simple question is this: Were we in Iraq during the 1st World Trade Center attack in 93? or during the attack on the U.S.S. Cole? or 9/11 ? NO.
Our presence In Iraq has kept their focus off our own country and on theirs, It wont last, but it has bought us some time.

I live in Northern Virginia and work near The Pentagon. I was half mile from The Pentagon on 9/11. And I can tell you that people here do feel safer than we did on 9/11. Confident it won't happen again. Why? Our brave troops and our government. This my personal opinion, and the opinions of my family, friends and colleagues.

I guess it's a state of mind. I feel safer then if I was living anywhere else in this world. Of course I live in Texas where everyone is allowed to own a gun if they're not a felon.

Yes, I feel safer and I feel that my country is safer. All thanks to the current occupant of the White House who is combating terrorist activity more successfully than his predecessor who was only concerned about pulling his zipper down for a quickie from Monica. Now, that really scared me, a president who was more concerned with his own personal enjoyment at the expense of the safety of Americans. Clinton got 3000 of our own killed on 9/11 due to his ignorance and incompetence.
