no...but you can keep her from going places where she has access to the internet...it is hard but I have a 12 year old too....she can only use the internet when we are home....and it is limited..... and we are the only ones that can log her on and we have certain sites set on our computer which is blocked from bad ratings and ones we chose for ourselves like myspace.com. Yes she is going to hate you.....but that is our job keeping our kids safe......better safe then sorry.

I agree with Great Dane, who answered earlier. Any kid who is acting inappropriately is asking for attention from someone. I'm thrilled to hear that you want to step in here. So many kids are lost when parents don't know what to do, and so do nothing! Your daughter has opened a door for communication between the two of you. What a great opportunity! You can now get in there and explain to her that you are setting limitations on her computer use - and why you're doing this. If she's seeking attention from (sounds like older men?) men, she's already stepped over some line from childhood to adolescence. If that's the case, she may be ready for more detail on life. Better to learn it from you than anyone else, right? Don't be afraid to set boundaries and limitations. That IS the loving response to her behavior. You can do a lot more to help her by being a parent and imposing rules than by acting like a friend. Decisions she makes today will impact her for the rest of her life. Way to go for being a concerned parent!

Simply look in the History files when your daughter is not online. The History icon is the round one on the toolbar that looks sort of klike a clock. The History will telll you where she has been. Also, you can see on the toolbar a heading for TOOLS. open this up, look in the internet options tab, and check temporary internet files and the history from there. These are valuable tools, and here, using the various tabs on top, you can set security levels to block contents from your daughter.
Good Luck!

yea -- uninstall everything then ask her for her passwords so that you can install her stuff -- while she is out -- OK that's the sneaky way -- have you tried the direct approach -- talk with her-- and if none of that works you can fall back on -- this is a family computer and you need to protect her from on line preditors so there is no privacy on the family computer -- if she doesn't like the rules she doesn't have to use the computer --

You have to nip her computer access in the bud right now. No reason to have her passwords if she doesn't have access. She's only 12 years old so an email account isn't a necessity for her. It is only for fun and getting into trouble. So disconnect her internet access now before it's too late.

You can download lots of programs to track her keystrokes.

I would do something different however. You need to talk to your daughter. There is nothing better than this. The conversation goes something like this.

You need to tell me all your user names and passwords.

why? that is invasion of my privacy.

Because I am your parent and part of my job is to protect you from dangers you are not yet prepared to deal with.

I don't want to unnecessarily frighten you, but there are people that pretend so they can hurt children like you.

It is the same as not allowing you to watch certain tv programs or go to certain movies.

It is not about trusting or not trusting you. It is about protecting you.

best,

cez

Yes, there is a program called "Keylogger" which detects keystrokes that your daughter types. it is completley undetectable and you will get all the passwords she types while she is ont eh computer and it is running. I have used it before and it works really good. you can also pick up all of her e-mails and instant messages. Below is the link to the website.

You can prohibit access on your computer's security settings tab. In the control panel. I would call her school - am sure a computer science teacher would love to answer this. Glad you are concerned - tough love I know.

This is real simple, revoke her computer priveleges. You're the parent, protect her from herself, and the internet perverts.
Or, you can remove her ID and pass word from the computer, so she has to have you log on for her, in your name, using your password (which you never allow her to know). This way she can't be on the internet without you knowing it.
Parents who allow their young children to have free access to their computers are truly irresponsible.

Norton Sytemworks is available with parental control. Go to Symantec.com and check out what they have. But by all means, stay concerned about your daughter's activities!
