I would recommend the books by Susun Weed.
I would also get a subscription to MOTHERING magazine. It covers so much more ground than any other publication and it is filled great stories and articles and photos.
best wishes with your upcoming birth.
best,

What to Expect When You're Expecting is a good book, and very popular. There are also companion books for the First Years and the Toddler Years, that are not as good. That might be a good place to start and then if you want to explore a subject in more detail (like, if you are considering a natural birth) you can get books on that specific subject.
Congratulations!

'What to Expect When You're Expecting' is for idiots.
It seems to be the source of a lot of the freaked-out people on here. 'OMG, you can't eat (thirty-two normal foods)! One beer will make your baby retarded! Deliver in the lithotomy position because your doctor knows best! Formula is just as healthy as breast milk!' Etc, etc. It's big on questionable procedures, doesn't criticize interventions, has some pretty unrealistic encouragement to be neurotic and terrified, and the information isn't always accurate. It will tell you nearly nothing about your options and choices for labour and delivery, but will do a great job of perpetuating some myths and making it seem like bad ideas are good ones.
'The Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth' is worth reading, though.

WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU ARE EXPECTING is by far the most helpful and fun book to read.
They also have series for after the baby is born.
