There is no excuse the only one that would work is that you died and well you didn't because you are on YQ&A so just tell her the truth because she is not going to believe any of these excuses. Good Luck you are going to need it

i was so busy at work and i don't even have time to pick up the phone
if ur studying then say that u got an exam coming up that ur so busy studying that u 4get that is was xmas
if ur out partying tell her ur not feeling well that day and u can't even get up to give her a call

Uh...winter ice froze up the phone lines, and for some reason you couldn't call her, or that you couldn't pay the phone bill because you had to buy gifts.

don`t lye it can only make it worse,
tell her your sorry like you mean it, & offer to spend the rest of the day making up for it..do the dishes for her or something.
or you can book her in at the spa for an hour massage
