I went directly to a midwife. i was 8 weeks and went to the emergency clinic to get a confirmation on my pregnancy test and have blood work drawn.

There werent any OB's within 50 miles who could see new patients before my 20th week, and there is only one practicing OB at the hospital I choose for delivery. So, I was funneled directly to a midwifery office.

Iam glad. I hate doctors, and the midwives see this as a natural process that my body can handle best when left on its own and monitored. Where as OB's and doctors see it as a medical procedure that needs their direct intervention.

I hate doctors. lol.

You'll have a booking visit fairly early on - about 10 weeks or so.

After that you won't see her regularly until a bit later on although she'll always be at the end of a phone if you need anything.

I first saw my midwife at 5 weeks. Not sure if that's what your supposed to do, but Im a first time mommy, so I wanted to be sure that I was doing my part.

Straight away the midwife should be advised you are pregnant. Then they'll come to see you or you go to them, depending on how your health centre works. Aside from a monthly check up, not a lot happens till the first scan which may be at 12 or 20 weeks.......funny it all seems to rush by

When I found out I was pregnant I contacted my doc, The doc wouldnt see me until I was around 11 weeks pregnant. Docs usually like to wait a while as there really isnt anything they can during the first trimester
