Everybody just wants to give or receive presents for Christmas.
But Christmas is about helping those in most need. Instead of the Commercial industry that it is now. So if anyone feels the same as me, when the banks open, or go on-line and donate whatever you can to a charity to help those who's only wish is to survive the day or to rebuild their lives.

I agree that originally the meaning of Christmas was of a Spiritual Nature. The uniting of the pagan celebration to Mithras and the Christian celebration of the birth of Christ. What I feel that has gone missing is the peace and goodwill to all people. We spend so much on presents, can't we spend just £5 or £10 towards charity to help those in need. It certainly makes me feel better knowing that someone somewhere is suffering less because of my donation.

Um yes we have because it orginally had nothing to do with Christ it was a Mithras celebration on that date, where exchanging presents was part of the custom. There is no date set for Christ's birthday in the bible, only the Koran hints it was sometime in spring.

But I admire your alturistic attitude and we could have a better world if there was more of it. Nice to know people like you are in the world.

Well, I certainly agree about the presents part. I got kind of sick last night watching a little 2 1/2 yr. old open more boxes than I could even count. He even looked like he was getting tired of it, too!

I don't think a child needs an overabundance of gifts. I kept thinking about how much money was spent and how some of it could have gone towards helping those less fortunate.

Christmas doesn't have to be all about the gifts.

I think the true meaning of christmas is being undermined when the big stores start it in October by putting up christmas decorations and selling christmas stuff. Jesus is the true meaning of christmas the hope and the light of the world

You're not correct about the true meaning of Christmas, and you're trying to say that WE have forgotten it, no way. The true meaning of Christmas is to celebrate God's birthday. What you said is a good thing to do, but definetly not the true meaning of Christmas.
