I am attempting to learn web design on my own, and trying to build my first website. Could you guys tell me of tutorial websites I could go to so I could learn html, java script, cold fusion (I am using dreamweaver 8) and other programs I would need to build an awesome website. A friend told my about a website W3 or something ,does anyone know what he is talking about?

If you are attempting to learn web design you don't need to know java or cold fusion! I do company and government sites and they don't bother with any of that girly stuff! HTML and FrontPage should keep you busy for at least a year. I specialise in coding but it's not needed for normal websites. The most awesome sites (viewable ones) don't have any java, cold fusion or flash etc!... Its all down to HTML and design, and normally done outside any web editing program first. Toy with Paint Shop Pro or Photo Shop while reading about HTML, it's the fastest route there is. W3 is a one type of web coding standard but I would not learn about that for at least a few years yet!!!

Download.com has some free online courses...there are numerous html tutorials out there, and Dreamweaver has some excellent tutorials built right in....you can also access some help files and form faqs at macromedia.

The best way to learn CF is get the book "ColdfusionMX Bible" - the ONLY book you'll need to learn CF. Its easy to understand and the examples are easy to follow.
