I've had horses for years and years, I've never seen anything like this little guy, a shetland for our kids. He's an outstanding pony except for this...

We have put him in stalls 4 times his size, he gets stuck against a wall every damn time he lays down!! I finally in desperation left him out in the barn loose, and you know that little bugger actually got stuck against a flat wall with 60 sq feet of space around him!!!

Short of tying him up or leaving him outside (not an option with our weather), does anyone have any ideas that could help? I'm honestly afraid he's going to do it when we're gone some day and I'll come back to find him with a twisted gut or dead.

Would and anti cast roller made to 36" size work??? Any suggestions, PLEASE!

Thanks Sue and Cattledog, I'll try to jury rig something for the little stinker! (I think he would be up against the barn wall in his 30 acre field too if I left him out all night...gawd.)

Actually getting his eyes checked is a good idea, too, we were wondering about that every once in a while.

The Kongs are a good idea, I'll pick some up tomorrow in town and rig up a little mini cast roller.. really appreciate the help.

Anticast rollers can work.
I had a filly that could get cast against the barn side in a six acre field.

I actually fixed a couple of Kongs to the top of her rug & that seemed enough to stop her. Luckily she was pretty calm & would just lie there & shout for help and never damaged herself.

have you tried to bed his stall really deep and at an angle on the sides. I worked at a stable years ago and they had warmbloods that would do this. so we banked the stalls deep and at an angle and never had problems. the anti cast roller will do the trick too. or a curcingle padded at the withers with towels. good luck and hope this helps

have his eyes checked by the vet, sounds like he may have a depth perception problem if he is doing it even with lots of room around him. he may even be trying to use the wall as a kind of support and is getting stuck. that is the only thing I can think of. I found this link on a website, hope it could be helpful. Good luck!
