You are going to have aches and pains all over as your baby grows. I am currently 22 weeks pregnant with my second child, and I have the backaches this time around (I did not have it too much the first time).

Be sure to call your ob/gn if any of your pains feel like cramps, that could be early labor pains or just Braxton Hicks.

tis the season for your muscles and tendons to really start to stretch.

What you're feeling, although it might remind you of period cramps, is more likely sore stretching muscles and tendons. They stretch clear around your middle and are quite painful as they make room for baby.

You're going to have aches, and cramps, and pains and pulls, and even double-you-over searing hot pain, as your body grows and the weigth of the baby takes a toll.

If you have colored discharge, or contractions that dont go away when you lay down and drink water, or if you have more than 6 contractions in an hour, call your OB right away.

But what you're discribing sounds to me like the first of the big muscles and tendons stretching. It'll probably get worse before it gets better, its a very unpleasant thing. Staying active helps the most.

It is always better to be checked out by a doctor. Give your lacal maternity hospital a call and ask them. I am sure you will be ok and it is just the normal streaching of your tummy muscles but safer is the better option.
I went into labour early and thought it was just the normal streatching pains i got with the other kids but it was not. Only your doctor can tell you.
