Windows 98 doesn't really have that great of a track record with usb....When 98 was released, usb was a fairly new idea and wasn't supported as well as it shouuld have been....since the OS came out at about the same time USB devices started becoming popular, most of the drivers are unrecognized by the OS....depending on what type of usb connection you have (pci card or built-into the motherboard) you may have a conflict in the bios thats causing the drivers to not install....The best thing to do is upgrade the OS but barring that, install the drivers manually, don't let the OS choose anything as it may be trying to install resources and drivers that don't match. Especially since its a usb card, you may also need to flash the bios in order for it to be recognized.

Later versions of windows, I mean after the windows 98 like windows ME and so on, doesn't need to install USB drivers. You connect your USB to your computer and they will start working. But in windows 98 you have to install the driver. If you want to install from the internet, you can't install it now because the microsoft had stop to give updates to older versions. They now always recommend to keep your computer up-to-date, I mean every thing should be latest.

I'm running 98SE...just install the driver that came with your card. The file in question should be on the driver disc. If you're having trouble installing it, do an uninstall and try again.

First make sure that your usb card is compatible with your computer. If you have a disc that came with it, install it first. Somtimes the usb card takes more power than your computer can give and that causes the freeze up on your computer. If your usb card has more than 3 slots, you may want to down grade to fewer slots.
