i have not really been in that situation but i have expressed that i want something taken back. is there any way that you can create another excuse about why it should go back. like it does not fit right or it seems to have a malfunction. if i were to spend significant money on something for someone and then notice that they never used it i think that would hurt my feelings more that it was a waste then for them to tell me that they have reasons for wanting to take it back. i would rather they get something that they can use then protect my feelings and waste my money

if i recieved a present that was expensive and did not like? I would take it back for a refund or exchange for something else that i do like.If that is not possible,I would try and sell it.I don,t think i would tell the person for fear it would hurt their feelings. No i have not recieved such a gift.

It all depends on who the gift is from. If it came from a parent then I would definitely tell them. I would say something like, "I don't want to hurt your feelings, but this present really isn't me. Could we return it and buy something else that I might like better?" If it is another relative then perhaps you could discuss the situation with one of your parents and see if they would be willing to talk to the relative for you.

Most people put a lot of thought into buying a present and it might hurt their feelings if you tell them you don't like it but, it can cause more problems if you fake it and then they wonder why they do not see it on you or in your surroundings whatever the case may be..........just tell the truth.........if you lie it always comes back to bite you in the butt............

I would have to agree with one of the previous answers. I would keep it and learn to like it. I didn't get anything for Christmas, but I gave out many gifts, so anything would make me be appreciative right now :)

I agree with APB. It depends on who the gift comes from. My MIL has given me an expensive cashmere jumper for Christmas. It is too large and an odd shape, but i will keep it in the cupboard.

If is a close friend he or she will understand perfectly if you want change the present for another thing.
If is not an important person to you..........who cares!! Go and change the gift for something nice for you!
