I've been mulling this over for a while, and so far, I've only come up with two outcomes:

1) The person becomes altruistic, but might create a bad outcome since what pleases another person now will cause them grief later (like breaking up with someone, would you rather be hurt now or wake up 6 months later knowing the relationship is doomed?)

2) The person is so worried about hurting and pleasing others they eventually do nothing since that won't affect others badly.

If you can come up with something else, I'd really like to hear it.

To elaborate, I meant the person's empathy gives physical pain when they cause pain to others, and physical pleasure when they please others. I thought of it as a cure to hedonism, but I also wanted to see what other oucomes would result from the scenario.

Congrats to voodoid, the first person to say something that even remotely sounds like s/he actually looked at the question!!! I'm going to wait a while, and if I keep getting bad answers, I might just delete this.

Well, like any power, there is always the potential for abuse. I think it depends on the person how it would be used.

You take the bad with the good, that is life. Now if you know how to avoid it then, please share your secert. Oh, I got it, you have to not have a heart, because that causes you to be empathic and care about someone else, or maybe your heart is all frozen so you can't feel anything, in turn you are just rude to everyone and they are rude to you.
