Please Harris. I've been brought up in Christianity all my life and I have STUDIED the Bible and theology extensively. I am very clear about my beliefs and I know the knowledge I do not posess. Just spouting out this type of thing makes you look like an ignorant person who believes what they are told to believe but cannot articulate their views without resorting to violence. Very Godly, NOT. Are you one of those Christians that want to murder people with different beliefs to you.
Hell is where the hatred is so I'm sure you know about the eternal damnation. God bless you in your search for truth

Are you talking about Yogic traditions, Melbourne? That's cool.
There is an inner Heaven & Hell. Life is for living here and now and the ancient religions alluded to this but it is true that the meaning has been lost or misinterpreted with time.
Jesus talked about a Peace of Mind which transcends all understanding. Yogic Hindus, Buddhists and Taoists reckon that Peace of Mind is found in deep meditation

What does 'be still' mean, Jean? Some state that a meditative state is a still mind. This question is in this area for a reason. I am not taking anything away from any religion but I think they were all aiming at the same thing originally and because of my human existence my quest is Earthly and not about an afterlife.
I think the past 'Wisemen & Women' knew about this and tried to get us to fucus on the internal otherwise we are nothing but empty vessels waiting to die with a hope of better things to come after death.
A life of servitude to please a deity so I can have everlasting life? With respect, I personally cannot find any evidence to substantiate such a world view without relinquishing my individuality and autonomy.
God does not need me to do his work. He is capable of doing it himself. He is not like a spoilt child saying do as I say or I'll burn you alive. It's not about that.

Inner peace through Christ seems to amount to relying on or having faith that the life worth living is not on this planet now but somewhere else at another time. It seems such a waste

Yes kilroy. Emporer Constantine converted the Holy Roman Empire to Christianity and made it compulsory for most of Europe. The Council of Nicaea decided which books would be in the Bible so the Divine intervention thing doesn't really stick as it was just a group of Bishops in the Church deciding what the people should have access to. They probably meant well in as much as they wanted their religion to have the widest appeal but that does not make it Divine. The Scriptures are a collection of ancient texts mainly written many years after the event but just human accounts or views of events of the time. In 2500 years from now, imagine the collection of writings from this time and how we will be viewed then. The Bible will probably still exists but so might the school essay you wrote about your first trip to the zoo, for example. It may be included in a futuristic guide to zoology as part of a collection. Doesn't make you an expert, it just means your writing was chosen for that book

The Bible as we know it has pages and chapters and books missing from it. With all thanks going to Constantine and the Catholic Church. For they were trying to make sure that mankind believed that the only way to God was thru them and not Jesus.... And there is a heavy price that they will have to pay for committing such a criminal act.............. Also it is now becomming known that even with all of their Saints, Without Jesus, The Catholic Church has no direct route or communication to God.. While the Catholic Church laugh about it all the way to their banks.......................................

To me the "peace of mind that surpasses all understanding" is
knowing with Jesus I have eternal life hereafter. Also "absent from the body, present with the Lord" as mentioned in the Bible along with "death has no sting" are assurances that we need not fear death. Because I believe in Jesus and I know Jesus, I do not fear dying because I want to be with my Lord.
God tells us, "Be still and know that I am God." Throughout the Scripture we are told "Christ in us." The Holy Spirit helps, comforts and convicts. He is our purifying and cleansing inner dwelling who teaches us all things.

What you are missing is Peace with God through his Son Jesus Christ. Many have found it including myself.
Repent of your sins, trust what Jesus Christ has done on the Cross for you,ask him to become your Lord and Savior, and a new world will open up to you.
Without Christ you will never find this Kingdom of God within you,and when you die you will spend eternity in Hell.
Please consider...
