Fair point but what category does this question fall within, what do you hope to learn?

I don't know. The only questions I've seen that get more than 100 replies (actually more than 100,000!) are those asked by celebrities. Which I guess proves it's not what you know but who you know because if it hadn't been Oprah asking about helping a stranger or Leo di Caprio asking about global warming the questions probably would have elicited about 20 replies...
I don't think that people always ask questions because they want to learn anything of value. Sometimes it's just for entertainment or curiosity to see what people will say.
I believe you can always learn something even from silly replies. Or sometimes you get a chuckle at least. That's worth something.

That 100+ replies were elicited means that the question sparked something in people. Even if the question served to connect 100 ppl I think it is justified. It is not a competition to ask complicated & obtruse questions.

Learning's great, but it doesn't always have to be about learning. Besides, one can learn that there are 100+ people who think the way you do (and you'd be surprised at how surprising that can be), plus a few that joggle your mind with a different point of view, and widen your scope a little.

The simplest questions are oftentimes the most difficult to answer.
For instance a young child's dog dies and he asks,"WHY".
Simple question, hard to answer in a manner that gives the child comfort and understanding.
Besides that questions are the first step to learning, no matter how simple.

I've seen what you're talking about, and I think the reason they ask those questions is they WANT 100+ replies. They want attention to add excitement and a fifteen minutes of fame to their otherwise dull and boring lives. Ignore them

These questions aren't necessarily simplistic, just the most popular. You can always answer the less popular questions for yourself.

If you ask a question where you have learned nothing, then you sould learn that you asked the wrong question.
