I recently inherited some fishing equipment from my uncle when he passed away a few weeks back. Never been before but I hear its the biggest participent sport in the UK with 1 in every 2 people going every weekend. Anyway may question relates to the equipment and how I should best use it (I don't want ot look like some amater). Its a 130 ton steel outrigger shrimp trawler 'The Mary J Bilge' (named after my mother) holed up in Grimsby. I was thinking of taking it for a quick spin this weekend. I was even thinking of letting Crystal, my pet octopus, go for a little swim (on a long leash obviously). Any tips from you fishing boffins?

Joking apart. You cannot even take the trawler to see unless you have a certificate of seamanship. There are rules governing the seas just like driving a car. If you don't know them and cannot use the equipment correctly you put yourself and other sea goers in danger. Sea trawling is one of the most dangerous careers one can do. It is not a pass time. I suggest you talk to a seasoned trawler fisherman before even thinking about trying this.

It doesn't take a fishing boffin to see the holes in your boat, lad! Nice try!
