Bio-diesel as a 100% usage requires double distillation of oil obtained from Jatropha carcus and such plants. This is a very costly process. Hence adding as a percentage helps with a single distillation and this creates nitrous oxide in the exhaust. This will not be a problem for tropical and hot countries but where temperatures are lower, % of biodiesel will have be lower.
All said and done, this would help to prolong the use of existing fossil fuel by the mix and alsol helps through the by-products like soap oil and cattle feed. Hence it should be considered worthwhile to go in for and may help us in the next 50 years before which an total alternative can take place, the present petroleum products.
