Communication has become immediate...email & information from the Internet. You no longer have to wait for the letter in the mail. You no longer have to go to the library to do research.

The one invention that has truly changed the world is the CELL PHONE. Although it was invented more than 20 years ago, in the last 10 years it has become increasingly more difficult to find someone who doesn't have one.

Faster computers with more storage and cheaper as well.
The internet and world wide web has brought communication closer and quicker ,but it didn't seem to help world peace that much did it.
Cell phones..not those gigantic huge "car phones' they used to call them..and they still call them that in the UK .Just watch an old 80's movie with them using those big gigantic phones..you cannot help but laugh.
DNA ...helping crime labs throughout the world solve crimes and murders and unsolved cold cases.
Genetics and cloning advances..(most of which we have not benifited from as of yet)...scary to think that we could produce a clone from a dead body from hundreds of years ago..eg..George Washington,Lincoln,Einstein,etc.and don't think that there is not some government lab producing these kind of experiments some where .
Ocular avances in technology to improve eyesight.
It is unfortunate that many of our resources that could be used to benifit the world are used for military purposes instead of peaceful means of advancement.
GPS technology..installed in automobiles..has not yet been used for hikers ,(Mt. Hood trajedy could have averted).,and the like.
We have sattelites that could see a dime in the Red Square laying on the ground,but we cannot find lost hikers on a mountain.
Sattelite Radio..still in its infant stages right now.
Ipods are the craze now..instant communication in your hand wherever you go..still needs to be perfected and I am sure will.
Electric cars..(we are still dependant on gasoline,hopefully that will change.)
Laptop computers were non existent 20 years ago..
Plastic money was there 20 years ago,but not like it is being used today.
Airbags in autos(still needs to be perfected)
DVD technology and recording devices..VHS being phased out if it has not already.
Gaming and recreational devices for the home is becoming more interactive,not like eg. centipede and pacman of years gone by.
Safety Equipment in sports has improved for eg. (hockey helmets),20 years ago hardly any player wore them.
Digital cameras were non existent 20 years ago..now they are the craze ,but film will always be around.
Phone messaging systems have changed(not for the better,try to talk to a live person nowadays from some company ).
HDTV's and plasma tv's are starting to take over,new video technology.
Home publishing technology is more affordable.

Advancements in telecommunications technology, the microprocessor, and too many software applications to even count (including operating systems in this).
