i bought my daughter an ipod nano...2nd generation ...my son has one but he got a disc/software with his...there is no software with this one...there are supposed to be on screen instructions but there are not...there is only an empty file coming up,lol...i have downloaded the manual from apple...but no help either...just want to get it set up and downloading...can anyone help???...all that comes up on the ipod screen when i connect it to the computer is ...do not disconnect...thanks...;0)

your son must have gotten a iPod shuffle that maybe included a disc/software with his iPod. you must download iTunes, which helps sync (download) music to your iPod.
go to:

http://apple.com/itunes/download

download iTunes and you can then sync music from discs or iTunes store to your daughter's iPod.

NOTE: iTunes 7.0 is the newest version. It may not work with a 2nd generation iPod nano.

You need itunes, go to www.apple.com/itunes download that, install it then you can use software like Limewire to download the music to.
