Keep up the water changes, but less volume and more frequency.Maybe 10% daily. Once a day is plenty of food.Do you siphon out the crud in the gravel? I agree that chemicals are not the way to go. How much light does the tank get? Should be no more than 8 hours a day. If your not putting too much food in and your getting all the crap out. No direct sunlight. Be patient,if you take away the light and the nutrients, the algae will eventually starve itself. Not much comfort but good luck any way PeeTee

Green water is almost always caused by one of two things. Too much light or too much nutrients.

The first thing you should do is have your tank water tested for ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates. Also have your tap water tested for nitrates.

It's possible that you have high nitrates in your tap water and your water changes aren't helping to reduce the nitrates in your tank.

You should only feed what they will eat completely in 10-15 seconds. This will lower the amount of waste in the tank.

Make sure your tank isn't getting too much light. Direct sunlight of any sort will cause incredible algae issues.

A quick way to get rid of the cloudy is using a diatom or micron filter on the tank. This will get rid of the cloudy, but not the underlying cause of the problem.

Keep up on the water changes. I would take a sample of the water to a fish store and have them test for everything. They can then tell you what the problem is and they do this for free.

They also make this blue stuff for use in ponds. I don't know the name but you add it to the tank or pond infested with algae and it keeps out all light. I think when I did it to my 55gal it lasted a week or so and I could not see into my tank at all. But when it started to clear out my tank looks awesome and the algae was gone.

It could be Phosphates also!!! Have your tank water checked....that would be the best starting thing to do!

Green water is caused by inadequate filtration and circulation in your tank. Some filters won't help, anything that has cartridges that you replace every month don't work.

In a tank that size you should run several large canister filters and a few internal filters.
