She became famous when she stared in a hit show called "simple life" with co-star Nicole Richie.
She gave off the image of immature, cute, dim, rich girl, and people are attracted to this.
Being that America is largely entertained by what the rich do, she became an instant celebrity.

She was able to buy her fame, which is what makes it seem illegitimate. Because of her fortune, she was able to star in a movie, make a CD and sponsor a campaign recently.
