I want to be able to eliminate a recording studio and set one up in my home. I have produced three cds and would like the simplicity of recording both vocals and piano onto a cd with capability of mastering/mixing myself.

so much excellent software outthere; it really depends on your goals; for more professional quality you need at least something like cubase.
I use a lot of stuff from steinberg and propellorhead (reason is a program with a lot of top post production tools.

For free software, I love Audacity. If you have good equipment, it should give you the same quality as other more expensive software.
