A husband should trust his wife, and never look into her personal things, especially into her written thoughts. If you wonder what your wife is thinking, ask her directly. Tell her you want to know about her more, know her mind more, what she's thinking, and how she's feeling. You don't need to be sneaky, and get into her diary to find out whats going on in your own wifes life.

I personally can't see the purpose for a diary if it's not meant to be read by others ,,,, There shouldn't be any secrets between husband and wife so why does a wife feel she has to keep secrets in a diary to begin with ?? I've never heard of a man keeping a diary ,,,, So what would a woman feel if he did ?? She would probably be just as curious about his diary as he is about hers ,,,, Something as silly as this could become a bone of contention and threaten the stability of the marriage ,,,, Would you threaten your marriage just because you want to keep secrets in this silly book ?

After reading responses...reverse this question...would a wife read the husbands "diary" ? Without a doubt! Women couldn't keep their nose out.
It is okay and there should be NO SECRETS from each other in a marriage.

Hi, Like most questions there is a yes and a no answer generally I agree with the other two answers where trust and confidance reigns BUT if the wifes activities are leading him to be concerned about her and if after TALKING about it she is obviously hiding something it would be normal human behaviour to want to clarify the situation. Again talking about concerns and feelings is the best solution. However as a last recource ( before hiring the private eye!!) Reading the intimate journal could be a justifiable action and may even save the relationship. Of course if the woman doesn't want her husband to find out some things DON'T WRITE THEM DOWN ON PAPER. use a private web site your own where noone has access. Protect it by a password etc.
If it's already done and the wife has nothing to be ashamed of and has integrity then TALK about it heck we are curious animals and if it got the best of him TALK about it he may be ashamed of his lack of control and/or integrity so sit down and talk, and make up after him swearing that he,ll never do it again.and affirming that you both love each other.
Good luck guys

Man, this is a difficult question. Because we all would like to say "NO" it's just wrong. However, if I were worried about my relationship, if my wife treated others better than I , if I couldn't positively say she was trustworthy, and her diary was right where i could get at it....I think I would sneak a peek. Once I saw that I was #1 in her life I would never need to look at it again.
Well, that is until someone with a manly voice calls up looking for her! God, I'm pitiful!!!!

Well l guess he probably shouldn't read it, not because it clearly says personal but just because he should be able to trust you. Although l do believe that there should not be any secrets kept from a husband or wife.Maybe he doesn't trust you as l would probably try to read my husbands diary( if he had one) if l thought he was keeping something from me. Speak to him and ask him why he is reading it.

There are a number of different issues at work here,
No he should not be snooping.
If it was personal it should be put away where it was not easily found.
If there are things in a journal which he should not see, it really should be retired and a new one started.
If there are items which you entered in a journal which are derogetory to him or recount something hurtful to the relationship, you have no business recording it.
To recount, no he should not be reading it, It should not be left out like a cookie to tempt the child AND if you don't want something known do not record it.

Diaries are always personal. No one but the writer should read a diary unless given explicit permission.

If you went looking for it with a purpose in mind, and this purpose was settled then I'm sure your either going to divorce her or there's some other devious intent. Then I would say, it won't go in court.
Other than that, yes it was wrong.
