I wouldn't scrub the pan with an abrasive like Comet, or with
Brillo pads. You may end up with a badly scratched pan.
However, soaking with hot water and dish soap, the boiling, etc.
may work.
There are products sold just for cleaning stainless steel. One that I use is called Kleen King. I bought it at the grocery store. It is a powder, but it's not abrasive. It works well. It's worth a shot on your pan. I would try to get as much off as possible with the soaking, scraping with a plastic pan scraper, etc, then try the stainless steel cleaner.
Good Luck.

Here is what I do.. add dishwashing soap and just enough water to cover the bottom of the pan where the burnt food is located and LEAVE it over night....Next day it should come off with little effort.. That, by the way, is what I always do and have had NO problems whatsoever.

Put about 1/2" of water in the pan, some liquid soap, put pan on the stove and set temp to high. Bring water to a boil. This should boil off the food, and make for any easy cleanup. Good luck.

Put water in it to boil, then add vinigar and baking soda, and boil. I thought this was pretty silly idea till I tried it--it loosens the burnt bits right off.
If you scrub it too much with anything metal (a scrubber or steel wool pad) it scratches the pan so much that everything will stick.

Very easy and economical. Pour some water (1 cup the most with plenty of table salt) and let it boil for 3-5 minutes, let cool and wash the normal way.
Note: If your pan is hot and it is switch to cold in the sink the pan is going to loose it perfect shape (it will bend).

Put a little water and dish liquid detergent in the pan and bring it to a boil. This will loosen any stuck food particles. If there is any discoloration left, use cleanser on a damp sponge or rag and polish it off.

Soak in boiling water til it cools. Then use an sos or brillo pad to scrub. If you still have some really stubborn spots, try scrapping them with a spatula. Sometimes you have to repeat the boiling water thing, depends on how bad the burn is. Good luck.
