be honest and don't answer the question if you have no experience/knowledge with premed or med

The competition to get into med schools is very tough. If you graduate from a big state university, then you will need to be at the top of your class.

It is not an accident that a large fraction of the kids in medical schools are from very rich families. First, they get to go to private prep schools, then they go to top private universities. And, they can spend the money to be in Med School. There are not many scholarships for Med School students.

So, this doesn't mean that you can't go to med school if you are from a non-rich family. It means that you have to compete against a very large number of kids who are anxious to get into med school. Only a small fraction of them will get in. If you want to be admitted, you have to have absolutely top marks in every single class, and do things outside the university that show that you are totally dedicated to this profession. Are you?

I think that having straight A+ grades will count for more than which state university you went to.

i agree with the above answer fully. is does look good to have graduated from some grand university, however, it looks much better to have graduated at the top of your class from a state university. CSU is a great school and many people get accepted into medical school from there every year. the most important thing is getting the good grades, a great MCAT score, and having lots of experience in the healthcare profession (volunteer at the hospital, shadow doctors...). i personally would choose to stay at one school for all 4 years, but that's just me.

Remember that it's pretty tough to transfer from a Cal State into a UC. It's not the same as transferring from a JC to a UC.
