My wife insists that warm and hot water shrinks clothes, particularly cotton, even if they are hung to dry. Is this true?

Yes! Clothes that are 100% or just a high % of cotton will shrink because of the hot water, not just from putting them in the dryer. Wash them in cold water and hang them on a drying rack to dry, trying not to stretch them as you lay them on the rack.

Warmer the water, removing the grease or dirt off your clothing gets easier n thats why many choose hot water. However ur wife is right,i.e not every clothing is suitable for hot water washing n will come out faded, wrinkled or say shrunken like urs. Just read the washing instruction tag that clothings come along with. U can atleast do that rt?

No, I use hot water on my whites and they don't shrink. Shrinking depends on the type of fabric. Cotton is particularly vulnerable to shrinking, but is usually preshrunk by the manufacturer so less likely to do so. Also if you hang something to dry, it usually won't shrink.

Absolutely! If the fabric is 100% cotton or any other natural fiber, warm and hot water does shring the fabric. Or at the very least causes the weave to become tighter and therefore appearing to have "shrunk."
