In answer to some of the posts above, due to the requirements of No Child Left Behind, many schools have cut back on history and government classes in order to concentrate on reading and math.

I recall the Taliban was a govt established by the USA after the Russo-Afhgan war. They harbored terrorists in the form of Al Queida. But, why would we say that the Taliban is a terror unit.

I can see saying the Al Quieda is a terror organzition but not the Taliban.

One would have to be very stupid not to know that the Taliban isn't a terrorist group. I am sure they discuss the topic in school from time to time.

Oh yeah, there's a Taliban under every manhole.
There's also extremist Christians that we should teach them to beware of, because they are trying to gut some of our freedoms.

Is it the duty of a teacher to teach or to instill the want for more education and give the ability of the student the tools to do so?
this liberal versus con is just one dogma apouting over another dogma spouters screams.
Taliban in Afghanistan were mainly Pakistani Islamics aiding the majority of Afghans popualtion, the Pashtuns.
How did they come to power is the real story left untold in american history classes as is the real roots of russian invasion and just who were these so caled Northern Front forces.
First off the Taliban were not part and parcel of Al Q organization, they were used to ferment social unest in Balkans paid by US armed by US NGO's with Iranian and N. Korean arms, Balkans blackhawks good example.
that some were intermingled with AL and bin Ladin is true as he was one of only a few conduits to arming Afghan rebels against Russia but they owed him no real affiliation. Bin Ladin was an outsider in their lands.
Kabul after Rssians left was in turmoil and kept so by tthe fighting of two rival warlords which began over who was the best romantic interest to have one male as a lover. the people of Kabul, Islamics clergy , asked for someone to end fighting and the Talibvan stepped in and shot both the amourous lovers, not the young boy.
the real instigators who got russia inot Afghanistan was the Northern Alliance as we funded them in raids inot neighboring Rusaian lands, even attacking a nuclear facility, . the Northern Alliance recived funding all through russian occupaiton and even after and so when US wanted to get oil and enertgy pipelines from Caspaian sea fields they took over Afghanistan with teh NA and lost track of bin Ladin.
When a tcher canot be kept abreadst of all world topics how can she teach subject and when she has to rely upon propaganda what is it she does teach.
Funny how an education today is not supposed to mean thinking for oneself but along lines approved by whom?
Do you want education or to be trained? Traing is what you are getting an education is when you step outside of your trained fields and learn what reality of life is.
A Medical Doctor is trained in the field of medicine but may be as dumb as a rock on any other topic outside of his medical knowledge. He gets educated when he starts looking for answers outside of his training.
Case in point, the Constitution is the most Liberal Governing Document ever in world history yet it is the so called Conservatives who want to restrict personal and individual libertys of populace as do the so called liberals so who and the heck is supporting the liberal document?
Teh only Governing Document that allowed a populace to think for themsleves and limited it to ensure it reamined that way.
Too bad the popualce cannot think for themsleves andymore but instead rely upon jingos of liberal or concservative instead.
Any education is a liberal if one can find the wisdom to connect the dots, for it liberates the mind to think on its own.
Reasoning over jingos and dogma!
Any means that is used to harm physical and the mental facilitys of mankind is a terrorist institution and yes the Taliban were terrorist. but then agains the rhetoric from so called X's in states is traing much the same as they di to their youths.

I would think they would be considered a totalitarian state in the infant stage of development as far as social civics goes. I think they would need to be taught as a contrast to our form of government... There is no telling what a Liberal teacher is teaching, what they are leaving out or adding...

If the teacher is a liberal, the lesson is that the Taliban is a good social club that has been slandered by a vast right-wing conspiracy. If we would support their fight for gay marriage, abortion on demand, and a cleaner environment, then we could all get along.
