There are many breeds(types?) of dragons. There are the metalics that are generally good aligned (Gold, Silver, Bronze, etc). The chromatics are of evil alignment (Red, Blue, Black, etc). Each has different abilities and strengths with varying breath weapons. There is very good historical (fantasy of course) information regarding dragons on the websites below. There are also many books like the Forgotten Realms, Dragons of Faerun and Dungeons and Dragons, Draconomicon (The Book of Dragons) to name a couple. You will find a huge amount of information in those regarding fantasy dragons.

Enjoy,

I cannot give a descriptive answer, but i can tell you where to find it(I don't have the sources). Look in the Dungeons & Dragons Monstrous Manual. It will tell you all about them. So many types and details, I would be typing for a few hours at least. Good luck on that.

Thank you for asking, Shinatama. There are 14 known breeds of dragons. The best known and scientically-proven breed category is dinosaurs, and includes modern reptiles, amphibians and birds.

The next 6 breeds have names and known attributes, and they all originated in either Britain (mostly Wales), Romania, or Manchuria (once part Japanese/part Chinese).

The other 7 breeds have hidden themselves from us intentionally. It is not known why, but several ancient wizards have speculated that they are not earthly in origin, but come from other planets.

Dinosaurs and the other 6 breeds have lived and died and disolved into our water supply. (Those still living on earth are reclusive hermits and have bad or grouchy dispositions). Every time you drink water, you consume particles which once were part of a dragon's body. When you go to sleep, these particles are activated and cause you to have coded dreams, which contain riddles the dragons desire to communicate to you.

To uncode these riddles, become a creative artist/craftsman, scientist, adventurer, theologian or day dreamer -- all of these eleveated professions will lead you to decipher the riddles given to you by the dragons who live in your body's cells, and come out to play in our dreams.

The breeds you mention are not actually breeds, but regional placenames. They are accurate names, but they do not indicate the breed and qualities of the particular dragon in question.

The most important thing to remember about dragons is this: They are stubborn, and they will not go away on their own. You must fight them or tame them. If you fight them, you must win, or they have no choice but to consume you for lunch.

If they consume you, did not panic! We have all spent our own share of time in the 'belly of the dragon.' Eventually the dragon will get bored, and when the dozing dragon accepts the fact that humans cannot be completely digested, they will spit you out on the ground, where you can then dry off.

Always shower and dry yourself thoroughly, after being swallowed by a dragon, no matter what the breed! Listening to beautiful music or poetry will further wash your dragon-stained soul, for better cleanliness.

If you tame them, they win let you climb on their back to fly about. This can be convenient and useful, especially during transport strikes and galactic hail storms.

A Word of Caution: the dragon which enters your world through the portal of compulsive behaviour or addiction can be fatal if consumed, or if you are repeatedly bitten. Seek professional assistence from a qualified 'Dragon Handler.'

Dragon handlers can be recognized by the sparkle in their eye and the sincerity in their embrace. They are full of mischief, so never turn your back on a dragon handler. Otherwise, you can trust them with your life.

Everyone reading this will probably dream of dragons tonight. Count yourself lucky, and tickle the dragon's shimmering dimpled chin, once for me.
