Well I'm not going to say Australia V Italy, although the result was controversial and disappointing, I was really proud of the Socceroo's. For me it had to be the return match in the Asia Cup qualifiers where we were trounced by Kuwait 2-0. The reason, we won the home leg without the WC players. Our A-League players stepped up and did an incredible job to win this match. Then in this return match, with the return of 9 of the Socceroo's we were made to look second rate and Kuwait deserved to come away winners. Australia played at an embarrassing level and hardly looked at all interested. Yes that would have to be the most disappointing 2006 display for me.

Middlesbrough vs. Steaua in the UEFA Cup semifinal 2nd leg. Steaua were better on the whole, won the 1-st leg 1-0 went on to a 2-0 away lead and then received 4 goals in the remaining match, just because they were afraid of winning. They played better than Boro but were inadmissibly imature (manager included) and it was a huge disappointment!

Germany vs Italy. This in my opinion was the most anticipated match in the World Cup. The defensive lynchpins against the offensive leviathan. It's a pity that Deutschland conceded 2 needless goals. It would have been Lehmann's victory in the penalty shoot-out if it came to that...Buffon can't save a penalty (Zidane shot past him). The fans were all in tears and Berlin did not have their team in the Olympiastadion playing against France. If Germany and France played, it could even have been what...2-2 etc they'd score MORE goals and make for a showpiece final...

CROATIA 2-0 ENGLAND during the 2008 UEFA European Championship qualifier Group E in Zagreb, Croatia in October 2006. it was the match ENGLAND should have got a least a draw but it turn out to be disastrous, using the unfamiliar 3-5-2 formation & conceded one of the softest goal by Gary Neville.

2006 FIFA World Cup Finals, France vs Italy.
I was expecting fireworks. Two great teams going all guns against each other but what I got was a boring match and the drama of the headbutt. It was the worst final in the history of FIFA

Australia v. Italy. The Aussies played so well and I think they even had the upper hand until that penalty was called. To go from playing that well to losing the match because of a controversial penalty, it's just disappointing.
