70's had punk come about 80's had new wave come about 90's had grunge and alternative come about .2000....what about this decades new genre? What do you think it is? Everything to me has been recycled from the previous 50 decades and no new genre has formed unique to this decade. Please proove me wrong. (the genres listed above are just an example of a type that came out in that particular era. Doesn't mean there weren't more in some cases.)

Good question.
Many of us are left out in the cold right now, as we must regurgitate the same mainstream music, conforming to the packaged fare the industry has been cramming down our throats for the last 10 years, which means I haven't seen but about three artists worth exploring in the sea of thousands that are out there for the last ten years.
It's been a long, hard, lonely road.
Being a fellow Seattelite, you will excuse my distaste for the term 'Grunge', as I know you are only describing the genre in it's given term, but there hasn't been much after them in innovation.
I fall back everytime on Dylan's view which happens to be my own ...it all sucks, it's cutout, and it has nothing to say.

I believe that Folk is coming back in a blend of Jazz and Alternative.
People Like Amos Lee are being listened to more.

What I think will be the new music, is more of the same.
I want to be hopeful, I've just waited so long with no results to be too optimistic of anything meaningful happening.

The only way to get things moving is for people to explore young bands who lean toward social and political messages.
To get out and support upcoming bands who are averse to the mainstream.
I know I wasn't much help, but I'm completely dissatisfied with what is out there now, and unless exploring the new garage bands for talent, I stay utterly faithful to my glorious past.

So far, it seems to be Nouveau Emo (that sound you hear is me gagging), a la My Chemical Romance.

The only reason I say it's a new genre is because it's not real emo ... it almost defies description, so I'll stop.

By the way, you ask the best questions and have kept me entertained all night. Thank you.

actually the new genre is like..rap and hip hop. (oh and also what the first person said too about bands like MCR. its also bands like fall out boy and poeple like taht) if you noticed, singers that have been around for a while have turned from innocent (the style in the 90's) from Hooters whore.
