If a fight is worth entailing, then the goal is worth achieving. So much to say, it would seem pointless to start a chase, if what you were seeking wasn't possible. There are just some things, however great or trivial, that would just sometimes seem out of out control. Time is the only answer... Patience is a virtue.

what kind of fight? couples fighting? give p before you say something wrong. after wards you can always apologize, but that person your fighting with will always remember what you said to hurt them.
fight a foe? give up before you really hurt someone. i hate fighting so i avoid doing so. i would rather make a friend than an enemy. love others and you shall be loved.

there would never be the right time... we just give up when we already are so tired on hanging on there and yet the person we're fighting for doesn't help us nor show us the worth of fighting them ;-)

It depends on what or who you are fighting and why you are fighting for it. My first response was to say Never give up, then I got to thinking....
