Why not do both?

You need to specify where you are. UK, USA? I live in the UK and assuming thats where you are then the following will apply. I have applied to join the police so I know how the process works. First of all you say you caught him in the act so I'm assuming the police where not informed. If this is the case you should not have anything to worry about. I doubt very much they will have been tracking you and if they had they would be aware of the fact that he has now moved. When you apply to join you are asked about criminal history of family members and obviously something like this is very serious. But it's also something thats unlikely to affect your application as its not something you are involved in. If it where money laundering or something of that nature, you would have more trouble as there would be a possibilty you could be involved. I wouldn't bother waiting in the hope that it might not come up when they run checks. If it is going to come up it will, no matter how long you wait. When something is taken off your criminal record it just means it can't be used against you in the future for any criminal activity you could be involved in. As for employment with the police this does not apply. They can view your, and your familys, entire criminal history regardless of whether you have been told its still on record or not. All you can do is try and see how it goes. At the end of the day they will only refuse your application with good reason. They are not going to be unfair and judge you on what someone else has done. Good luck, hope all goes well!

There is a plus and a minus to both.
Look and see where your priorities are.
Personally, I would prefer teaching, even though those brats that don't get any discipline from their parents are a major pain in the neck, but then again, the chances of getting killed at the job are much much slimmer in teaching!
Whatever you decide to do, good luck and keep save!

you can do both, you can try to teach kids doing private lessons in English, Math or what ever you are good at and you can see if you like it. If you like it a lot then maybe you can think about teaching or just do private lessons on the side. You can also volunter to help teach kids with there school work on your off time and you can see what you like better or even do both.

With such unruly and undiscipline kids in schools now, I'd opt to stay in law enforcement. At least I'll be armed, and in a better position to protect myself.
