Every year I go there I notice change.I come from Tamil Nadu.My family and I live in the U.S.A.I went there exactly 12 months ago.I also went the year before that.I notice it is changing rapidly.3 years ago in I saw cows on the streets and dung everywhere. My visit 12 months ago showed that had changed. They had banned any cow in the street without an owner.3 years ago the streets were more filthy. But now they actually have people in orange uniforms cleaning up the trash. In the airport there are more advances like more plasma television as well as more inside shops and entertainment. On the way to relatives home in a van I saw more building construction and highway roads being constructed.A few more shopping malls have been opened as well.As for the poor people there are still many but compared to the 1950 times when 52% of the population was poor now its 20%.Lately they have been giving free television sets to poor people.

Has any of you been to INDIA ? Well, I have. And even though the Indian economy is exploting, I does not mean that the quality of living across the populaton is impriving, trust me I have been there and it sucks. There is no way, no way things will be significantly better in 20 years. You know why? Because the a lot of the people who are going to make up the workforce in 20 years live in TOTAL poverty today, I have seen cows all over the streets, dogs eating from the trash, little kids defecating in the streets.
If you have been to Dehli, you would not find it uncommon for people too urinate in the streets in broad daylight. Todays literacy in India is male: 70.2% and female: 48.3% and an overall population literacy of 59.5%.
The country has an aproximate population of 1,095,351,995 people, that is 1.1 Billion people. About 1/4 of the population lives in poverty. That is almost 300 million people, our population back in the states.
There is poverty unlike anything you could ever find in the U.S., and it is all over the place. Over population is a big issue in Dehli. By the way, if you ever visit India, skip Dehli.
And to Sushobhan,
Man, I dont deny the India is doing better, or that the Indian people are not hard working because they are. India has investing very heavely in Education and it will pay off in the future.
But today
Truth is that out of the aprx 1.1 billion people in India, only a small minority hold good paying jobs, mainly in the I.T. sector. I dont have a good solid number, but I guesstimate that only 40 million have good paying jobs.

it will be much better than now. i expect the literacy rate to be 90%+ by then. and there are MANY more jobs waiting to be taken up. the economic boom will accelarate due to the trickle-down effect
and to Robert above, let me tell him that India is only 60 yrs into independence. the US was fighting a civil war and looking for non-existent gold! it took 200+ yrs for it to become a superpower, and india is gonna take less than 100!!!! and Delhi and Mumbai have some of the highest stanhdards of living in all of south asia, so if u don't go there, just don't come.......

Better, more vibrant and more demanding - parents would have less time to spend with the kids, kids would have less time to spend with their parents. People would have ore money, the GDP would be higher, the industries would have taken off and be world-class, India would compete in a large number of sectors with other developed nations.
On the flip side, unless controlled, the population, corruption and the lack of infrastructure would continue to haunt.

Very very bad if the present economical policies like privatisation , Globalisation and capitalism continues .... It'll only up the lives of people who are already upwards....These policies won't help the poor and low-classes and their lives will go down ward than what is now....Don't use the word BOOM for these dangerous economic policies......BOOM [ in tamil -PURATCHI ] is a pure word that these booming persons don't know other than the LEFTS and the supporters of bhaghat singhs.
