Three ways. First click on Start, then All Programs, Accessories, and under System Tools, run Disk Clean up. Secondly, click Start, choose Control Panel, and Add/Remove Programs. Remove programs you no longer use, it will show you a date the program was last used, a good guideline. Third, download this safe, and free program called CCleaner, that will clean the clutter out of your computer. Best of luck. Chow

Deleting files does not free up more memory (RAM).
It increases the available space on your hard drive. Use the built in disk cleanup utility in Windows to remove temporary files.
Check your start up programs to see if anything is starting you don't need and uncheck it to help free up memory.
Also go to control panel, add/remove programs and see if you have anything installed you don't use and delete it.
And, of course, the use of a tool like System Mechanic, recommended by the previous poster, will help. Any good (usually paid for) optimizer will help with your own good house cleaning.

right click the file you want to delete.
left click the option to delete.
do this for as many files as you want to get rid of.
right click on your recyle bin.
left click the option to empty.
run a scan disk (under the system tools)
run a defrag (under system tools)
and you are done.
good job, pat yourself on the back, and your ready to go.
