Helen, did you buy the 360 system that comes with a hard drive? It would also have been called the Pro system.
If your system does not have a hard drive he will not be able to play any games other then 360 games, he also will not be able to play on line with out a hard drive.
You can pick up a hard drive for $100 at any electronics store that sells the 360.
If it does have a hard drive, not all original Xbox games play on the 360, most do however. Go to the following link to see a list of original Xbox games that work on the 360.

1) You need an XBox hard drive to play them.
2) Not all XBox games are playable on the XBox 360, in fact hardly any of them are. In fact I had about 12 XBox games and only 3 of them work on the 360.

everyone gets this problem
some games you can play and some games that have been re relesed on the new xbox 360 you have to buy again!
Isn't terrible!!!
but there are some great games on the xbox360 like:
dead rising if your into zombies!
Gears of war brilliant!!!
call of duty!
all are very goood!

on xbox live u can get a download so u can play sum old xbox games on it

you have to download the backwards compattibilitty to hard drive via xbox live
