The case of female inequality with the male in terms of division of labor and fair chance in education, labor force, and decision making is still a controversial issue in the Arab society

What are the reasons for gender differentiation?
What are the characteristics that led to posing this social problem?
What are the future expectations for this topic?

Thx

I am Arabic and yes i can say there is and there isn't inequality in the same time.First of all,Our religion and the instructions in Koran demand us to treat all people equally, and demand men to take good care of women, not because they are weak or that they are less important than men (as many may think)but because they are delicate creatures and supposed to be treated as princesses(no kidding).Men have to work to support their families.Women choose to work but they are not obliged (if they do,they dont even have to spend money on their families ,they can spend it whatever they like).Women don't have to do house work ,men should bring them helpers.Men can't prevent women from working or getting an education or even marrying the one that they love .But unfortunately ,i admit that lots of Arab people live by stupid customs and habits which most of them prevented in Islam.
However, nowadays things started to change little by little, women are taking high positions everywhere.they go study abroad by themselves .and they are contributing alot in the society .it's a kind of a beginning of an evolution for us and it will take some time to let every one know that we are all equal ..
Last word(if u met arab women whose job only is to raise children,do what thier husband tell them and have no goals in life -there's no one to blame because they chose to be like this)..
I hope this enlightens u ..

before answering , i wish that some one that answered this question and mentioned that the reason is due to the follow of Quar'an to go back and try to look for its meaning and then comment , not to just comment on what he hear from the media...
i will not mention that this inequality between males and females is not found , but i will mention that it is not that much u r mentioning it, it is not like this at all,,, in many arab countries the girl similar to the boy has the rights to learn , work , move alone anywhere , vote ...... and many more things
the main reason that causes this inequality before this time , is the follow of the eastern traditions which r not related to the Quar'an, these traditions in some arab countries consider it as a restricted rules and can' t be avoid although the Quar'n tried to overcome this by its rule mentioning the importance of the woman in building the family which is the cell of the society , but as i mentioned the ground of the traditional thoughts is delaying this equality to occur but it is almost near to be vanished...
wish u r convinced

hi all
I want to say that It is wrong what many of you said because the Koran gives women all their rights
The reason is that Arabs are still following the manner of life before Islam also this inequality does not exist only in the Arab world it exists in many European countries and in the USA (more than 20 millions women are bad treated by their husband) so it is not the problem of the religion.
in our religion we must follow the prophet Mohammad (pbuh) who never beat his wives , helped them all the time and treated them very well .
If Arabs follow well the holy Koran it will be an equality between males and females
thank you

Well
1) They follow the Qura'an 'posingly', but not 'properly'.
2) Women ARE not EQUAL to man. I REPEAT.
3) Women are also humans, yes, and deserve similar rights, but they are not equal. Why? Biologically and physically different. Even MENTALLY different.
It has been proven that women have a weak memory, along with emotional clashes in their minds which is very helpful for bringing up a family with love and care, but not for decision making. Also, would a man be arrested more likely for running around naked or a woman? Duh, a woman. A woman is free from financial liabilities (i.e. she can relax at home) so she doesn't need as much share of money as men, in inheritance.
But as far as education is concerned, they deserve equal rights.
Everyone has their opinion but remember, women cannot be equal to men, only similar. And before blaming Islam for degrading women, look at your Non-muslim history/ or even current rape and sexual abusal rates. It ain't as good.

i believe that there is inequality because a lot of arab countries follow the Kohran and it was made based on patriarchal societies before so most of its laws are based on those beliefs. that is why in those countries males are thought to be greater.
