Please dont everybody say the undefeated dolphins team, because they while being a very good team, also had the assistance of the 3rd easiest strength of schedule in NFL history, so try putting a littile thought into that

To the guy who answered with the packers, if you can show me some stats to prove what you said, you'll definitely have provided the most convincing arguement

The Pittsburgh Steelers of the 1970's were the best team I ever saw. They had a great quarterback in Terry Bradshaw, Franco Harris and Rocky Bleier inthe backfield. Both backs could run, catch and block. The offensive line was tough, anchored by Hall of Famer Mike Webster (generally considered the greatest center in NFL history). Lynn Swann and John Stallworth were great wide receivers and had some great big games. On defense, they were even better. LC Greenwood, Ernie Holmes, Mean Joe Greene and Dwight White on the line with Andy Russell, Jack Lambert and Jack Ham at linebacker and Mel Blount, JT THomas, Mike Wagner and Glen Edwards in the backfield.
Every year talented Bengals, Browns or Oiler teams to win their division (in different seasons each one of these teams were very good as well as very bad, but there was always a solid challenger) Then the Steelers needed to beat the great Miami Dolphins or Oakland Raiders in the AFC Playoffs. They beat one of the best teams ever in the Dallas Cowboys in two different Super Bowls.
The 49ers of the 1980's were great, but I feel the Steelers had a better defense. The Cowboys of the early 1990's were exceptional, but agains the Steeler defense was better and those Cowboys were dominating as the league was being watered down. Vince Lombardi's Packers were also great, especially on defense. I don't know that their receivers were as good as Pittsburgh's.
I am not a Steeler fan, I just remember watching their greatness with a little bit of awe and a lot of frustration. I'm a Giants fan, the 1970's were a long dark, dismal decade.

I would say that the 72 Dolphins would be right up there, but if you are looking for a different answer, try this. How's about the Cowboys of the 90's, with 4 Super Bowl wins to their credit. And I hate the Cowboys. The early 2000 era Patriots, with 3 Super Bowls in 4 years, were also great. I hate them too. The 85 Bears, whose only defeat came at the hands of the Dolphins should be considered also. I am a Dolphins fan, so I think the 72 boys would be my ultimate pick. No One will ever accomplish that feat again.

I have been watching the Nfl over here in England since 1982 and the best team I have seen during that time was the Chicago Bears of the 1985 season. They lost only one game against the Dolphins on a monday night. They shut out the Giants who would win the superbowl the next season with virtually the same team. They then manhandled the Rams of L.A in the championship game. The Patriots got slaughtered in the SB by the monsters of the midway. There defense was awsome and there offense featured the great Walter Peyton. Mike Ditka was there head coach.

I have to say the '96 Packers. No team has dominated like them in every aspect of the game: offense, defense, and special teams. They don't get mentioned because everyone focuses on Brett Favre and the offense, but the defense was #1 that year, with Reggie White up front with Sean Jones, and LeRoy Butler roving the backfield opposing teams didn't stand a chance. Oh, and by the way, with Desmond Howard returning kicks, they almost always had great field position.
If you are judging the whole team, then you have to look at every aspect. The Packers that year dominated from every position.

I would have to say the 2006 Pittsburgh Steelers. They put on a run that could be put up there as one of the greatest, on there way to the Superbowl. Yea they had some luck with the Indy game and the fact the Palmer went down during the cin. game but all good teams need to over come those things and Indy and cin. didn't. Were they the best team all year? No! Did they pull of something incredible? Yes! You also shouldn't let the Superbowl fool you. Bad calls are apart of the game and teams need to over come those. The team doesn't have to be the best to be the best they just have to over come adversity and the 2006 Steelers did that. I would also give props to the 69 jets (A.F.L) when they did the unthinkable by beating the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl 3.

The 1976 Super Bowl Champions , Pittsburgh Steelers. Five shutouts in one season ( NFL record ) "Steel Curtain" . Sent 9 to the pro-blow. The entire AFC defense was dressed in Steeler helmets.
