Everyday I see out least four questions about Muslims that just happen to be insulting or misunderstood.

Everyday I see more then half a dozen answers about Muslims that are just wrong and ignorant.

Where do these people get their facts from?

Jack -

I'm a Muslim myself though I never said I knew the correct information about Islam just because I'm a follower, I know enough information about my own religon and that
seems enough to me. --

But I don't believe the first thing I hear about other religons or judge them by lunatics who put shame into the religon by what they do/did.

“Mohammed is God’s apostle. Those who follow him are ruthless to the unbelievers but merciful to one another.” (48:29).

This I find to either be false or altered with;
We are taught to be kind and merciful to all but the Satan.

“Believers, take neither the Jews nor the Christians for your friends.” (5:51)

This I just find plain stupid and ignorantly false.

“The true believers fight for the cause of God, but the infidels fight for the devil. Fight then against the friends of Satan.” (4:76)

Does the Bible not teach the same thing? Fight against Satan and his followers - Friends of Satan are his demons that follow and do his biddings -- Do the Christians do Satan's biddings? I think not --

So technically this isn't aimed at Christians or Jew's or any other living being that dosn't worship Satan or do his biddings.

“We will put terror into the hearts of the unbelievers.” (3:150)"

Again, and again, false. We don't use terror in our religon. Despite (continued)

(Continued part) those terrorists who brought shame to our religon.

So Rich B, you're sources may or may not be wrong or right, believe what you will - Just don't judge a Man or Woman by his/her religon.

Every religion can be abused to justify violence.Do you remember the IRA and counter groups?
I think Tony Blair said it best"This is not a clash between civilizations, this is a war about civilization."
We really should embrace moderate Islam so Muslims can feel like they have a choice. And I'm no expert but do believe, despite the way it's been hijacked by fanatics that Islam can be and in the core is a peaceful religion.
One passage in the Koran, cited by those who say Islam is an evil religion, is this
"Fight in the cause of Allah those who fight you, but do not transgress limits, for Allah loves not transgressors. And kill them whenever you catch them, and turn them out from where they have turned you out - - - if they fight you, kill them."
That appears to be damning evidence against Islam. But this passage must be seen in its context. These words were directed against the idol-worshipping tribes of Medina who were trying to wipe out Mohammed and his followers. Mohammed was engaged in a life and death struggle to establish his monotheistic religion. His words were not a call for a jihad, a command for his followers to kill "all infidels" as Islamic fundamentalist Imams and terrorist organisations claim. Are we to judge Islam by the actions of a few bigoted fundamentalist Imams and their followers or by quoting extreme passages from the Koran? Is that the only teaching of the Koran?
The overwhelming teaching of the Koran is for Jews and Christians to be treated with reverence and respect. Mohammed considered Jesus a prophet through whom God had spoken. He taught that Christians would achieve salvation if they lived up to the teachings of Jesus. Since the early days of Islam things have changed. Over the centuries the two religions have been bitterly opposed to one another. The Crusades were a time of bitter fighting and dreadful atrocities on both sides. Today the animosity continues and writers speak of a "clash of cultures" which in reality is a clash of religions. Islam is a missionary religion and wants to see the world become an Islamic world. In countries where Muslims predominate Christians are usually regarded as second-class citizens and suffer restrictions on practising their faith. Proselytising is strictly forbidden. But when Muslims emigrate to a Christian country they demand the right to proselytise Christians.
One could go on enumerating the difference between Christianity and Islam. But what can be done to achieve greater understanding between Christians and Muslims? In A.D. 1219, at the time of the Fifth Crusade, St Francis of Assisi made an attempt at reconciliation between the two sides by visiting the great sultan, Al Kamil, the leader of the Muslim armies, and sharing the salvation and love of Jesus with him. He stayed some time with the sultan. The visit changed the lives of both men and led the sultan to say, "Oh Francis, if I ever meet another Christian like you, I will become a Christian". Francis had expected to meet a barbaric pagan. Instead he met a highly cultured and deeply spiritual man. One writer says: "He found something of Jesus alive and well in his new friend, so much so that they were able to pray together". We today need to have the same understanding of and compassion for Muslims that Francis had. Because of the worldwide tension today between Christian and Islamic nations and our concentration on the things that divide us we often fail to realise that the two religions have important things in common. There are two in particular. Christianity and Islam are both monotheistic religions and both accept the Old Testament as holy scripture.
Of course there are profound differences between the two religions and I would in no way gloss over them. The goal for Muslims is to be like Mohammed who taught if necessary you could kill your enemy. The aim of Christians is to be like Jesus who taught that we love our enemies and do good to those who would harm us. But in judging Islam we should endeavour to see the best in it and not concentrate on its worst features. None of us would like the Christian faith to be judged by Deuteronomy 7:1-2 calling for "ethnic cleansing": or by Leviticus 20:10-13 calling for the death penalty for adultery and homosexual acts or by the barbaric behaviour of the Crusaders. Demonising all Muslims because of the atrocities of a few fundamentalist Muslim terrorists - disowned by the vast majority of Muslims worldwide - is wrong, We must be fair in our criticisms and loving in our actions.

I got a portion of mine from a book called the History of Sex by Reay Tannahill. Pages 285-286 were interesting where it said when Spain was occupied by Muslims, passive homosexual partners were a familiar sight and it was generally believed that no pilgrimage to Mecca was complete unless the pilgrimage whiled away the journey by having intercourse with his camel boys and camels. Also there is a chapter devoted to Islam which talks about harems and eunuchs where males genitalia were destroyed very frequently. This can be found on pages 229-254. I am sure there are many good Muslim people in the world, however most of the world do not agree with the way women are treated or the barbaric animalistic way that terrorists have portraid themselves on a daily basis through out the world. Car bombs, suicide bombings, be-headings.

I will gladly link to my sources of information. As it stands for me at this moment, I do NOT believe that all Muslims or Islamics are interested in the destruction of Israel, America and western civilization but do believe the numbers to be approximately 10-18 % who are factional and on the fringe.

Here in America, the fundamentalist Christians for the most part condemn and vilify organizations such as GodHatesFags, etc. It seems to me that the peaceful Muslims/Islamics do nothing much to try to stop their fundamentalist violence-prone faction from committing the acts of terror they have been known to commit. I was glad to see that a tiny number are trying to speak out against the violent segment. It is not enough though to garner trust from America's citizens. More need to stand up against the terrorist violence and the anti-Israel agenda.

The links I have posted are just a few that I visit for my news and opinions. Maybe they can enlighten some on some things they did not previously know.

The following quotes are up for debate. As with any religious document, they are open to interpretation. Explain these then please.

"“Surely the vilest of animals in Allah’s sight are those who disbelieve.” (8.55)“The unbelievers are your inveterate foe.” (4:101)

“Mohammed is God’s apostle. Those who follow him are ruthless to the unbelievers but merciful to one another.” (48:29).

“Believers, take neither the Jews nor the Christians for your friends.” (5:51)

“The true believers fight for the cause of God, but the infidels fight for the devil. Fight then against the friends of Satan.” (4:76)

“We will put terror into the hearts of the unbelievers.” (3:150)"

I am truly curious.

not only on muslims, but in all the things they don't agree. it could be other religion or belief, it could be different political point of views, it could be different taste of movie or clothing. sometimes media only shows one side of the story and not both. my country used to (and maybe still) censor news and other things. a media which has a certain base of politic/religion/genre, would put news that makes them look better than the rest. it's part of the campaign. but true, that people shouldn't talk bad about things they only know less than half the truth.

people tend to see things the way they want to see, just like how i see many asker here are not actually asking something, but rather looking for an answer which suits his/her thought the best, and by doing so supporting them to do something. i am not talking about you, but rather about many other people.

maybe i'd better shut up, since i don't know about these people and their background.

How do you know you have the correct information? Everyone has the responsibility to verify information before posting it. That includes you. You can get mad if you want to. But that is the responsibility of giving an answer which is supposed to be fact. If you give an opinion, then that is already verified because opinions can be anything. Facts are facts. Opinions are opinions. Sorry if someone gets the two mixed up.
By the way, check history. You will learn much more from that than you will from yahoo answers.

People are dumb. Amazingly people on the internet somehow are able to navigate onto the world wide web and then pass off the information their drunk retard friends told them is truth. So the answers come from ignorance. Seriously, at lest half of Yahoo answers are answered incorrectly and there's nothing anyone could really do about it. Sorry if you religion/country/whatever was offended but this is the internet and any idiot can claim the truth.

Islam is a good religion just like others. There are just fanatics and extremists who make Islam bad. Thus, Muslims must weed out their disoriented brothers so that other religions will have a good perception of Islam.

9/11 is the first thing that comes to mind for me, and I said this before. Also, the SILENCE from the Muslim community...Why don't we ever hear the Muslim community CONDEMNING these cowardly terrorist acts? If you don't agree with these tactics then SPEAK OUT against them, otherwise I suppose you will just have to continue to feel insulted. Better off insulted than dead though.

all muslims are terrorists, they just dont know it yet. You say that "technically" in your defenses, but it is in the koran, correct? You know religious people argue their point to twist the information to their benefit, so what makes you different. I have been to iraq a couple of times and seen it first hand. Thats my source.
