is this question serious?
i think both points put across are extremes.
scots are not all hateful towards english that is a stereotype like the one where all scots wear kilts 24/7 and say see you jimmy constantly as well.
as for english being soooooooooo tolerant yes there are a lot of ordinary tolerant people in england ( as there are in scotland)
however when i first went to england for a wedding the first thing i witnessed was a guy in a kilt (who was english incidentally) being kicked and punched senseless whilst being called a " haggis munching skirt wearing scottish w**ker" a shining example of english tolerance i am sure you would agree
and dont flame me just because my opinions may be different from some of those who have previously posted. that would after all seem less than tolerant.
to all the scots and english not affected by this i apologise for any offence caused by my views or this question

I'm Welsh and I find this myself.
My partner is English and I have received nothing but acceptance and friendship from English people - when we go to England to visit his family and friends they are all really friendly and say how much they love Wales and the Welsh culture.
Yet the bile spewed by some of my fellow Welshpeople against English people makes me feel ashamed. Espeically as most of these Welsh people know NOTHING about history or any of the "injustices" they claim England has meted out against Wales.
Half of what they claim "The English" "did" to Wales is a product of their imagination (I did Welsh History at Uni so know what I'm on about unlike most Welsh) and how you can spew hatred against the average English Joe Bloggs because of some rich English buying holiday cottages up North Wales God only knows!
And as for Wales being part of the UK, can't say it bothers me one little bit. I fail to see that my life would be any different under an independent Welsh Parliament as under Westminster. In fact, as I'm a non Welsh speaker, it would probably be worse!!!
Sadly the people who spout this crap are just bigotted and full of their own shite and do not respond to reason so I just ignore them.
I take people as I find them, Welsh, Scots, English Irish whatever. I would never judge a whole nation by stereotypes.

I think the moment you generalise on a subject like this you've lost. Not all English like Scots and not all Scots hate the English.

Because we are historically the top dogs & some Scots have one big inferiority chip on their shoulder.
Ive met a lot of Scots, and like most of them. The daft anti-english attitude just annoys me.
Without england, scotland would have been a backwater. But Scotland & England together created the largest empire the world has seen.
BTW even if you take oil revenues into in account, Scotland has consumed far more cash than it has produced over the last 400 years.

The English have manners, and the Scottish really haven't considered what total devolution would mean.
Total devolution means you need your own military, your own defence system, your own trade links, your own immigration system etc. These things aren't cheap.
In the last few years I've become very pro Scottish devolution. I used to remain polite when Scottish workmates (working in England!) would go into 'We Hate the English' mode, but I've now heard it so many times my patience has run out. If the Scots want to hate us, that's fine - but we get the right to hate them back now.
I used to consider myself British. Given the no Scotsman (or Welshman) would ever use the term British to describe themselves I now refer to myself as English.
Let the Scottish have what the devolution they want. It'll be the funniest thing we've seen in ages.

"Why are English people sooo tolerant towards.............., yet Scots are so hateful towards English?"
English were never tolerant towards noone.
They are not only the Scots who hate you. find one who doesn't.
Scots have many reasons... I'll tell you just one.
Just only the last generation has been tought (officially in schools) their own history and their own language. All the previous generations were tought the English or the "British" history and language.
"Do you want a nation to vanish? bit it in its language and its history" (Its a classic line)
Think about.

I don't think the English are all that tolerant to the Scots and if the Scots hate them..It's probably for the same reason the Irish aren't cray about the English..... They truly do HATE us!!

Its all down to the history between us really, dating back to the roman times with the Celts being forced to the extremity's of Britannia, whilst the Romans inhabited the heartlands
doesn't help that a succession of English kings from the time of the Norman conquest have tried to bring Scotland,Wales & Ireland under the rule of one flag........

Maybe it's the history, you know invading the country and all that. Like with the Welsh, welsh children were given the cane at school for speaking welsh. It's all in the past though!
